Thanks for sharing your great experiences and photos of Plitivice and Vintgar Gorge mataitom. Planning a trip for September and they are high on my "to visit" list.

I'm a solo traveller and I haven't visited the former Yugoslavia before, and I'm not sure what to expect. So it's useful to see how easy it is to get around Plitvice and Vintgar Gorge.

@ CathMc: I spent 4 delightful weeks in Croatia and other parts of the former Yugoslavia, including the Plitvice Lakes and Vintgar Gorge, in 2009 -- and I did so as a solo female traveler. No problems. Of course that provides no guarantee of what your experience would be like. FWIW, I strongly recommend that you consult the <i>Rough Guide</i> for Croatia -- the single best guidebook of the half-dozen+ that I worked with. And do consider starting a separate thread -- your interests, preferences, and plans are unlikely to be identical to those of any other traveler.
