Bermuda activities
Going to cruise to Bermuda May 15th - would like to have input on what to do in port. Are there any physical activities such as hiking or horseback riding to do? Any input would be helpful....just don't want to walk around.

Did you try checking your cruise line's website? Most have a page within their sites that list different shore excursions for each of their ships. (I know for sure that Norwegian DOES have this.) If not, you might call your travel agent and request a listing. FYI-Some cruise lines don't select their offerings until a couple months prior to their embarkments.
I know for sure that horseback riding is available ($60/hour)-book at least one day ahead!
There are several recommended day-hikes. One is from the Royal Naval Dockyard to Somerset Island (4 miles). You'll "cross a beautiful nature preserve, explore an old cemetary, view the Royal Naval Hospital, and and enjoy a panoramic view of Great Sound." (Frommer's Bermuda 2004)
Bermuda is well-known for its beautiful golf courses! Green fees range from $56-$95 for 18 holes. Club rental averages around $30.
Most of the big hotels have tennis courts. Most require proper tennis attire. Rackets can be rented for about $5 and a can of balls for about $6. Grotto Bay Beach Club (across from the airport) will allow non-guests to play for $10 daytime play and $15 evening play. They have four courts; two are well-lit for evening play.
I'm sure, with your planning, you're aware that Bermuda can be an expensive vacation area. You might want to invest in a copy of the book: Frommer's Bermuda 2004 ($16.99) or borrow it from your local library. It gives excellent advice and up-to-date price quotes (if needed)!!! Getting it ahead of time will help you to acquaint yourself with what you might like to do while there.
Bon voyage (smile)!!

Bermuda is gorgeous- and you will love it..
One of the best bargains in town is to go into Hamilton and get on the FERRY that goes from resort to resort in the inner harbor..it is the cheapest way to see the island..also you can get off at a few of the resorts and pay another fee to get back to Hamilton...
Elbow Beach is fine-Lots of cruise ships send their guests there..Yes, tons of places got hit by the hurricane but by June, everything should be up and running smoothly..
Tap water is safe to drink...
Buses are safe and easy to use...FORGET the taxis as they are EXHORBITANTLY expensive...
Try the Lobster Pot for a great meal....
And make sure you explore the Caves...it is a gorgeous experience...

Rent the scooters !!! You will see the whole island. When you go to horseshoe
bay keep walking down the beach and go
through the coves. There is so much
more beach with beautiful rock formations. Bermuda is beautiful you will love it. Also try to eat off the ship on front street. Have fun !!

We cruised Horizon to Bermuda in 2001. First day in St. George's we did a biking excursion. Some parts were grueling - even the show-off bikers were walking up some of the hills! But it was a blast, and ended at Elbow Beach for snorkeling. We were there right after a hurricane and didn't notice any appreciable difference in the quality of the snorkeling. I highly recommend this excursion, if it's offered. Bikes were in great shape and the guides were very knowledgable.
