Any suggestion about Ocho Rios?
We are traveling in Dec on the Carnival Victory. I am looking for a safe tour in Ocho Rios! I want to visit dolphin cove and the popular falls, however I have never been there, so any ideas on good, safe excursions?
Thanks!

I know some prefer Ocho Rios on their own but this is one of the few Caribbean ports we purchased from ship. It was very reasonable 3 years ago: Dunns River falls plus dolphin cove park walk $38 p.p. For kids, we added dolphin swim at total 98 p.p. There is also a small beach over there. Eveyrybody had fun, and you don't have to worry about being back on time. Take water socks with you to walk the rocks.

Peat Taylor does private tours.Look at www.peattaylor.com and you'll see what he offers. We did Dunn River Falls and he took us around the island through the rain forest etc... He got us to the Falls early before all the cruise ship people. It can be a zoo. He will personalize your tour and take you where ever you want to go.
Our group was just our family of 8....really nice! He met us right at the ship..No problem!

WE have been to Ocho Rios 3x on cruises. The country is beautiful--however, please be aware that there are a large amount of drugs readily availble, and being "hawked" or "sold" by the locals (if they aren't stoned themselves). I thought the cruise ships did a good job of warning people. We are quite adventuresome, and like to go out on our own --but for safety sake, we have taken the tours that the ships offer. Just FYI in my experience.

I have visited Ocho Rios by ship many times and also done land vacations there a dozen or so times as I love Jamaica.
The area where the ships docks is not a great example of the island, which is unfortunate as Jamaica is beautiful and has wonderful people. Judging the island on that area is like judging NJ by a visit to Newark.
I like to spend the day at an AI and enjoy the water or cab over to a favorite spot for a nice lunch. I never do tours as I have been there so many times.
