Hard to say, but that decision can be made after having a look at the goings on. I would book through the cruise line and if they find it looks too strenuous, they can walk down the adjoining staircase from the top down. In general I wouldn't recommend it since it can be very slippery on the rocks and you don't want to risk a broken hip or leg. But it is great fun to see everyone else splashing around and the falls are a sight in themselves. As I recall the surrounding area is pleasant to stroll around in. Also a sightseeing tour of the island is included on the way to the falls.

That will depend on what kind of shape you are in, i.e. heart, back, etc. Are you adventurous? The rocks can be slippery.

You have 2 options:
1.If you decide to climb, I would book through the cruise line, even though it is extra $$. Your group will have an escort up the falls & it is a great way to meet people. Also, there are tour people to watch your belonging (like your towel, glasses [they prefer you leave them behind] - don't bring much else). Bring your own water shoes ($5.99 at Target, Walmart, etc.) because to rent them on the ship they charge about $5.00. Also, the guide does look for a tip at the top of the falls, so have a couple of bucks in your pocket.

2.If you decide your not going to try it, just take a taxi to the falls. There is a staircase right next to the falls. It is a great place to watch how it's done. There is also a little straw market to walk through. The beach is a nothing.

I climbed 3 years ago. It was great. We took a catamarin to the falls which gave us the opportunity to meet our fellow shipmates/climbers. Everyone had a bond & helped each other do the climb. Last year I did the staircase, while I watched my husband climb (no guide)with my 11 year old.

Hope this info has helped.

I say go for it..you must be in good health, otherwise you would not have asked. You all hold hands going up and stepping up the water splashed rocks. I recall once or twice actually "climbing" up. Most if the time you step.Just be careful---I would hate for you NOT to at least try!

There is a market afterwards you can shop also..

Teva's will work. I think water shoes would be better but that is just my opinion.

I would either go to the falls with the ship or book something before hand with a reputable tour guide (Peat Taylor).

There were several on our ship who took taxi rides, were robbed and left on the other side of the island.

As far as walking up in your 70's - it is fun to go even if you don't walk up the falls - you can walk up the stairs and watch everyone. I would go and then decide if you think you can do it.

The scariest part is if the person above you let's go - in this case, it won't make a difference if you are 25 or 75.
