What's Provo like?

I've been doing some research on Provo and it will probably be my next vacation. It sounds beautiful...the one thing I'm not finding info on is 'what are the locals like'? Are they friendly? Do they take an interest in tourists or would they prefer we weren't there? Is it a safe place to walk around town? Just wondering what the culture is like. I haven't heard anything negative, so I'm assuming it's good.

My wife and I spent 2 weeks on Provo in February 2002. We never had any concerns for our safety, even walking back from restaraunts at night. The people are quite friendly and really enjoy talking to tourists who have taken an interest in the island and its history. I found most individuals quite helpful. Provo is the island name, it does not have a 'town'. There is 'centre island' which serves as the business hub. You will really enjoy Provo as well as the out islands. We did the cave tour on Middle Caicos, then a short stop at Igauna Island. Provo truly is a place where you can relax. Note...there is not a lot of nite life on Provo. There is one casino at the Allegro. Other than that there are bands playing at some of the various restaraunts. Nite life though is pretty quiet.

Dave

J,
I agree totally with Dave's impression of Provo.
The people are incredibly friendly and eager to talk about their home with interested tourists.
We just got back from 2 weeks there.
We went to several places where we were the only tourists. We never felt unsafe or unwelcome, and were fortunate enough to spend a lot of time with some very interesting people who call Provo home.
We loved T&C. It is just getting developed. Locals were nice and it is definately very safe. Take notice of this - they ALL hitchhike (no thumbs out though). All ages do it. It seems to supplement the bus system. Each at the Big Fish! Prices are a bit high - as most of the Carib is.

J,
We spent 8 glorious day in Provo later April/early May and found the people to be delightful. We are on central time zone and Provo is on Eastern so we tend to eat a little later than many people so we started out to dinner at around 8:00 each evening and of course we were late coming in and went everywhere, no problems. You have to drive slow, roads are full of potholes, alot of speed bumps and there are people all along the roads at night talking, visiting with one another, and yes many, many people hitch a ride to where ever they need to go. We never, ever felt uncomfortable any night we were out.

We went out to Malcolm Point, we drove daytime from one end of island to other, snorkeled on several beaches to where we were the only ones on the beach the whole time we were there, and again felt very safe.
It is a great vacation spot, wonderful restaurants, excellent snorkeling, beautiful beaches, have a great time.
