Virgin Gorda Baths
Hi all! My husband and I are going to St. Thomas for 10 days in early October. We want to see the Baths and Virgin Gorda. Is is possible to do this by ferry (I think there is a ferry but does it drop you off near the Baths?) or is a private group charter the only way? Thanks!!

You can take a ferry to Virgin Gorda and at the dock, after going thru immigration, take an open air jitney for a short ride to the Baths. The ferry leaves Red Hook on Thurs and Sun at 8 am and Charlotte Amalie on Tues and Thurs.

Yes, you can take a ferry from St. thomas to Virgin gorda but it only makes the trip twice a week. Fare is about $50 or $60 R/T. Ferry makes a stop on St. John. The trip takes about 1 3/4 hours. The Ferry drops you off in Spanish Town so you'll need a cab to take you to the Baths. You can check schedules at:

Mindy,
We just got back from St. John and took our third trip to the Baths. We used Pirates Penny/Stormy Petrel. Cost was $125 per person but you have a guide that shows much more than you could learn/see on your own. The place is unbelievable and their tour is well worth the money. An added bonus is the fully stocked bar on the boat! If you're a non drinker they'll even get a few NA beers. Can't say enough good things about them. Here is their web site: http://www.charterboat.vi/stormypetrel.html
Enjoy,

I agree with all of the above but you need to know that the path to get down and back to the Baths at the waters' edge is a little tricky if you have any trouble with a short hike. Otherwise it is worth a day out of 10. Make sure the Pirate Penny does not take 50-75 people for then it could be a "beer trip" like Jolly Roger" trips which for us are not relaxing.
