T&C Question for Blamona & HowardC

Hi. If you're not on a trip somewhere, again...
Trying to decide if we should a rent a car for our stay there. What do you think about renting a scooter to see the island for just one day? We'd do taxis to eat out. Good idea or not so good? Roads not ridiculously bumpy? We're only there for 3.5 days. Thanks.

Where are you staying ?? Personally I wouldn't rent a scooter. On the maon roads people travel pretty fast. A lot of the roads have been repaved but some are still graded coral so I would rent a car for the day if not a couple. You could also check out the Gecko shuttle routes to go to dinner. Cheaper than a cab.

Really? That's a bummer. Thought it would kind of fun to do the scooter thing. We're at the Grace Bay Club. Thanks.

I agree with HowardC. No scooters, not very scooter friendly. Especially on the round abouts, I've seen some close calls, and some bad accidents, and with no hospital, you have to fly to Miami.
Rent a car for at least 1 day. In the morning drive to Chaulk Sound and Sapadilla Bay. If it's a high clearance vehicle go to Malcolm's Beach. Just make sure to bring a picnic. There is no food and water at any of those. Go through Leeward, and check out Leeward Beach and Pelican Beach. If you go to Pelican, bring a big beach bag, because you'll find huge conch shells.
Definately take an excursion on the water. The water is insanely turqouise there. If you want romance, try the "beach getaway". They drop you off at Big Water Cay (stunning beach) with chairs, umbrella, food and drinks. Hours later (you tell them how many) they pick you up.
Have a great trip.

Blamona: You are fantastic. (You 2 HowardC ). Thank you.
We'll rent a car for a day then. I do plan to do the beach getaway thing. I'm on the fence about the excursion on the water (was thinking jet ski tour). Don't want to do too much on such a short trip. We'll see about that one.
Thanks again to both of you.

HowardC is awesome 8-)
He seems to have the same beach tastes I do.
The "Beach Getaway" would be your boat excursion, because you travel up the cays, reached only by boat! So that counts!

Big Water Cay is awesome. J&B tours does a beach getaway. They provide chairs, umbrellas and drinks and lunch. www.jbtours.com. phone 946-5047. If you want on the way you can stop at Little Water Cay to see the Iguanas. Think it is $5 each If you go down to Coral Gardens to snorkel you might want to try Snuba 241-7010. Sail Provo-946-4783 does day sail snorkel excursions through the Cays with lunch. www.sailprovo.com For dinner expect you will eat at Anacona one night. They have a live band Wed, Fri and Sat. I also recommend Magnolia wine bar and Restaurant at Mirimar in Turtle Cove and Coyaba at Coral Gardens if they are open. Heard they are going to close and move to another location. Trying to verify. If they are closed try Bay Bistro at Sibonne. You'll enjoy Grace Bay Club. We have stayed there. If you are driving around try Da Conch Shack on the road to Blue Hills for lunch. Tiki Hut in Turtle Cove is also good for lunch. Expect you'll leave wishing you stayed longer

Caribtraveler: I just posted some pictures and a trip report on "finally a trip report from Provo" post. There are a couple of pics from Big Water Cay, and from 4 different resorts. I hope this gets you excited to go!

Yep I saw. Wow is all I gotta say re: that water.
I can't wait to go and I know we'll wish we'd stay longer at the end of trip, HowardC. Thanks for all the info.
