Rooms Open Air???
Does anyone know if there are any other rooms in the Caribbean that are similar to "Ladera" in St. Lucia? We would like a room that is open to the outdoors on one side, or possibly the shower is open to the outdoors? All replys appreciated. Thanks!

Fernandez Bay Village, on Cat Island (Out Islands of the Bahamas) has outdoor garden baths. The rooms are not open-air, but the unit we stayed in -- Shane's Shack -- had so many windows (3) and sliding glass doors (3), and was so close to the water, that when the doors were opened (with screens), it was just as good as being outside but without the bugs.
The bathroom was very cool. All stone walls and thatched roof and open to the outdoors (yet discreet). Although I've heard of people getting snakes and lizards in their bathrooms, we never did -- only the occasional moth.

Little Dix Bay Hotel on Virgin Gorda: most rooms have big windows facing the ocean, if you push back those, it's just moskito-net-screens to protect you...you'll feel the nice breezes and hear the ocean.....No snakes.

Many of the cottages on St. John have open air showers. The one that we stayed at was 'Sago' in Coral Bay.
Monkey House ( Western Caribbean ? ) in Costa Rica is open on one side.

we went to ti kaye village in december - the rooms are open air with the shutters and doors open and are semi-open air even with them closed because the shutters are just wood slats. the ocean is so close you can hear it. it was SO charming. the shower is totally outside with beautiful flowers all around. this was one of our favorite aspects of the room - and it was a better price than ladera and other resorts mentioned here...

St. John has lots of villas to stay at with open air stone showers protected by a screen on the top. Plus, St. John is one of the most beautiful island in the Caribbean if not the nicest.
We stayed at Argonauta villa. 2 bathrooms had these outdoor type showers.

this question is for the poster "floridabound". I just looked at the villa you rented on St. John and it looks absolutely gorgeous!! Is it as nice as it looks on the website?! Were there any things about it you didn't like? Where is it located? Would you mind emailing me at [email protected]? We are going to Grand Cayman this year but our next trip is to St. John (was there 17 yrs. ago on our honeymoon and loved it). Thanks.
