No pool yet, but when I was there in June 2003, the owner told me he had some plans in the works to add a pool. Not sure where on the property it would go...maybe on the bay side. I love Long Bay Hotel, so please let me know if I can answer anything else for you.

We're (just one couple) considering going next winter and have been debating betewen regular rooms and one of the cottages. Any opinions. I infer you enjoyed the food. Did you ever feel you needed A/C? We're not as concerned with the heat as with the possibility of mosquitoes. Any other insights? Thanks.

Which room/cottage to pick is still a hard decision for me. Hands down, the best breezes are available in the regular rooms on the second floor ("deluxe" I think). Open jalousie louvered windows on both sides of the room create a wind tunnel effect that even in summer was almost too cool for sleeping at night. The rooms are a nice size and I think they mostly have four poster beds, but the bathrooms are tiny in the hotel wing. When I stay for 3-4 nights, I tend to choose the hotel rooms. When I stay longer, I choose either the Harbor House or View House, depending on the season. View House is my favorite. It's the most spacious with the largest outdoor deck--umbrella table, four chairs, and two loungers with wonderful views of the bay and the sea. However, in the summer the breezes just aren't sufficient to cool it. It's perfect in November or May, though.

Harbour House has much better breezes since it is right off the bay. Not as much privacy, but the interior is much more open and spacious than the other cottages. There are screens on all of the windows, so bugs were never a problem. Having a refrigerator is a big plus for me when I travel in order to keep chilled bottles of water on hand at all times. When we stay in the hotel rooms at Long Bay, however, they always provide us with a pitcher of ice water at night with their turn down service, which eases our desire for a fridge.

I was quite pleasantly surprised by the food on my first visit to Long Bay and it has continued to please me throughout my other visits. But overall it's the feeling that Long Bay exudes, along with its unsurpassingly warm staff, that brings me back. And since my husband and I were married there last year, we have even more wonderful memories wrapped up in the place.

Thanks for your thorough reply. I'd definitely settle on the View House except for your comment about the breezes. We like privacy and views. We'd probably go in February 2005. We've been without A/C high up in St. Lucia w/o a problem of heat or bugs; in a beautiful house on Virgin Gorda w/o A/C where I got "bitten up alive"; and most recently in Grenada with A/C--very nice, just very pricey. Have to decide I guess. I have already gotten a sence of the ambience and warmness of the staff from my e-mail correspondence with Chris. I hope you'll be able to answer further questions if they come up. Thanks again.

Have booked 10 days in February 05 in the View House cottage. If I have further questions (ejcrowe) can I e-mail you? Or do you prefer I just ask them here? For example, did you take any sailing excursions? Was there any place nearby to buy minimal provisions for the kitchen if one wants to make lunch a couple of times? Are you able to arrange for massages? Etc.

Thanks.

Please feel free to email if you wish. [email protected]

Last summer for the wedding party we chartered a boat from Wadadli Cats for a half day snorkeling excursion to Bird Island. Great snorkeling and the food and rum punch served on board were quite good. They have regularaly scheduled sails daily, and you can check their website for prices and schedule. It was one of the highlights of the weekend and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Kenneth Charles is Long Bay's taxi driver and tour guide of choice. He took us around the island for a couple of half day tours and he also drove us to dinner on a couple of nights so that we could try other restaurants. He's a very kind man and given to telling many stories while he's driving. If you see him, I hope you give him my best.

I never tried to arrange a massage at Long Bay, but I imagine that anything that is available on the island Dave or Roma could arrange for you. (Dave is the manager and Roma runs the front desk.)

The hotel will be glad to arrange for provisions for you for the cottage at a surcharge, or on your way from the airport just have your driver stop at a grocery store to pick up some items. We did that last time to pick up snacks and sodas for all of the kids in the wedding party so that their parents didn't have to pay every time somebody wanted a Coke.

You're making me quite homesick for Long Bay as I write this. I won't be able to go back until November, and even then it's only for a few nights.
