RITZ CARLTON TRIP REPORT

Just back from the Ritz Rose Hall with the wife and 2 teens. What a great place! I highly rec. The best service I have ever experienced anywhere in the US or abroad. Beautiful grounds, everything immaculate. The rooms are very nice with unbelievable beds and big bathrooms. The restaurants are very elegant, the food good but not spectacular although the presentation is beautiful. The beach is just fair but who cares! The White Witch golf course is not to be missed. This is a very nice place. One thought: do not even think about doing this resort unless it is all incl. I have never seen prices that high anywhere. Our food and drink bill would have been 3000.00 if we had been paying the listed prices.

The restaurant service at this resort is so slowwwwwwwww. The staffs are also quite forgetful although I'm sure it's not intentional. the Ritz at St. Thomas and Cancun has better service.

Someone please help. I want to book at the ritz carlton jamaica.<BR><BR>Every rating except one on fodors and anywhere else rate the Ritz in jamaica very HIGH. <BR><BR>But and there is a big BUT. After they give the resort almost a perfect five they complain about the food, the beach, the pool. Either claiming they are ok or poor. <BR><BR>How can you give it almost a five and then have complaints of slow service, mediocre(sp?) food, and an ok pool and poor beach.<BR><BR>Is it that it is the Ritz Carlton and you expect so much better or is it just an ok place?<BR><BR>Is it a good place to stay or not?

I have heard that service is poor, restaurants OK but not great, poor wine list, rooms OK but not great, bathrooms smallish and beach just OK.<BR><BR>As for "curious's" question, I believe that the higher people's expectations are, and the more they pay, the more likely they'll gripe about things they'd pass off at more moderate places. <BR>The best yardstick is to get COMPARISONS from people. What do they consider the best places they've been? <BR>If someone has never stayed someplace really nice and is just irritated because they paid more than they were comfortable paying, and they expected absolute perfection, then ignore them.<BR>If someone who stays at the world's best places complains, but is complimentary of other top places, better take the comments into consideration.

I am also considering staying there. However I am getting mixed feelings about it. <BR><BR>Everyone starts off with this place is great, I recommend it and then start listing complaints.<BR><BR>Normally if I have a great vacation at a nice place I dont bother listing the complaints(almost any place has its cons)

The rooms at the Ritz Carlton Rose Hall average 450 sq ft. and the bathrooms are extremely large with double sinks.<BR>Have you seen them since you believe they are so small???

<BR>Lu,<BR>Thanks for the great report. Heading to RC/RH in November and getting psyched already.<BR>I have to laugh at most of these posts. Someone comes back from the place, tells what they personally saw and how it all went for them, and the next thing you see is someone posting "I heard it was (fill in negative remark)" You heard? What weight does that carry compared to someone giving a first person report?<BR>From all the posts I read on this board, the only ones I really take any stock in are the ones delivered first person "I was there, I saw this, the service I received was like this."<BR>Sorry, got off on a tangent there.<BR>Lu, did you play the White Witch course?<BR>If so, can you talk a little bit about the condition of the course, and tell a bit about the golf concierge. I'm trying to understand how that concept works. Is this really a caddy with another name? Are there caddies in addition to the concierge?<BR>Thanks again for the info on RC/RH.

If you're an American and some American says they're small, I'd believe them. To most Europeans, our small bathrooms are big. In which case, they'd be fine.

Lu, glad to hear how much you enjoyed the Ritz Carlton Rose Hall as we are booked there for a late June trip. How exactly did the all-inclusive option work? Information on the all-inclusive packages available is vague at best. Were ALL beverages included (of course I mean afternoon cocktails on the beach/poolside, snacks and sodas for the kids) or only those taken with meals? What did your kids enjoy the most? If the beach was only "fair" did you check out the beaches at Half Moon or Rose Hall Beach Club? Thanks!

Wow. My report has drawn some notice. To answer some of the questions: 1)rooms-they are big, well appointed, spotless w/very plush beds 2)bathrooms-also large, marble, 2 sinks, bathtub and seperate shower 3)restaurants and food-there are 4 rest, the 2 top are Jasmines and White Witch and they are excellent (make reserv before you go), yes service is alittle slow (its the Caribbean, chill out) but extremely attentive 4)pool-no waterslides if that is what you want but how about attendants bringing you iced towels when it gets hot and trays of fresh cool fruit 5)beach-water was clear, has waves on windy days, was open everyday we were there, kayaks, catamarans, lots of floats available, volleyball and a great beach "jerk" shack 6)White Witch Golf Course-yes we played it, it is stunning and difficult, golf concierges are great, they know the course and do everything for you except hit the ball, you have a cart so technically they are not caddies (they run) 7)all incl-you order what you want when you want (even midnight room service) and sign the bill but no pay at the end, no tips, we ate and DRANK like maniacs including premium rums etc and it was no charge (although they say premium is not incl) 8)kids-they liked being pampered and ordering anything they wanted, the pool, the beach, the big lawn by the pool (w/croquet, soccer etc) 9)Rose Hall Beach Club-did not go to it and finally 10)-my quality comparisons: We have been to Caneel Bay (twice); El San Juan, PR; El Presidente in Cozumel(twice); Alfonso 13 in Seville; The Palace Hotel in Madrid; the Oberoi in Bali; and various Four Seasons, etc domestically....I consider this hotel up there with any of those.

I stayed at the Ritz Carlton last summer and it is wonderful!!! First class all the way and a beautiful resort.<BR><BR>I found this link some time ago with some pictures of the hotel including the white witch golf cours, swimming pool, and bathroom. This page is a review page, but it does have pictures. Another site is this travel agency, but it does have pictures of the pool and Mangos restaurant next to the pool; www.goclassy.com/FamilyResorts/ritzcarlton/ritz_carlton.htm<BR><BR>The quickest way to find pictures is to go to http://www.altavista.com, do a search under ritz carlton rose hall, then select the "image" tag. There are plenty of pictures. A search at google.com will give you the same photos.<BR><BR>enjoy
