Rent a car in PR?

When we stayed in the Isla Verde area we just walked or took a short taxi ride to any restaurant or sights close by. Then we rented a car for three days and took day trips to other parts of the island. You might not need the car for the entire week. When we stayed in the Loquillo section, we rented a car for our entire stay since we were further away from commercial areas.

A car is not needed when staying at the Hilton. Old San Juan is a short cab ride away or a relatively long walk if so inclined. The Condado is a 15 minute or so walk. If you want to visit the Rain Forest or the Caves you might find it cost effective to rent a car for the day. ACtually a walk to OSJ can be interesting. There is a nice park for part of the way. You go by some interesting government buildings and some smaller forts.

Ref: Renting a car in PR.<BR>If you want to get around to see a few sights rent a car. Be aware that, Puerto Ricans, (most) not all, drive like mad men/woman! They are very aggressive and don't adhear to traffic laws. Best thing to do is just let then go by.

I just returned from PR- we stayed at the Condado. We took taxis for almost the entire 5 days. It costs about 15$ to almost everywhere. However, day trips get pricey. We rented a minivan for about 80$ for the day. That is a total cost. It was worth it to go to the rainforest and then to a beach over there and then to dinner.

I am staying at the Hyatt Regency Del Mar in Dorado we are 2 single guys 32 and 31 yrs old. Never really stayed in Dorado but from what I hear its doesn't seem to be that lively at night as far as nightlife. Do you suggest we rent a car to go into san juan?
