Reefs or 9Beaches?

Hi everyone,

I'm in the middle of planning a trip in July with my husband and have narrowed the hotels down to 9Beaches and The Reefs. I am a little concerned about the construction going on in July at the Reefs but also a little concerned about the remote location of 9Beaches. Does anyone have any recommentions of one over the other? I am aware that 9Beaches is more "rustic" which we are fine with but are there any other issues to be aware of there? Any insight is appreciated!
Thank you!

Are these your final two choices? I ask because I can't imagine two properties more different from each other, so I'm interested in what kinds of things you'll want to be doing while you're here.
(For those who are wondering, OP is referring to beautiful Bermuda.)

I definitely agree with txgirlinbda. The Reefs is an elegant, luxury accomodation and 9Beaches is eco tents. With only a few exceptions you can easily hear people in other tents so privacy is limited. After touring this accomodation a few months ago I would say "rustic" is an understatement. The odor of the adjoining dairy farm was noticeable in several places on the property. Great views, yes, nice little beaches, yes, but average food and not very private accomodations throw the balance to the Reefs.

9Beaches is remote (but a number of their cottages are close to a public beach park) but you can easily walk from there into Somerset to catch a bus or ferry anywhere on the island. The Reefs is located near the Fairmont Southampton Princess on the South Shore, plenty of bus connections but the ferry would not be a routine option.

If you are interested in being on the beach, but want to avoid the construction at the Reefs, you might want to consider Pompano Beach or Cambridge Beaches as alternatives.

Enjoy your time in beautiful Bermuda. It is another world.

Thanks to you both! I should have included some more detail around what we were looking for. Luxury is always great but we tend to stay away from larger properties in favor of more unique options. The unique part was why I was interested in 9Beaches. Cmcfong, the point about privacy is a good one-- while I don't really mind (in theory at least) the tent part I don't think I want to be spending my vacation listening to other people at those prices. Thanks so much for the info- really helpful that you have so recently seen the property.

In terms of things we are interesting in doing in Bermuda- we would love to do some diving, the usual eating and drinking, exploring the island and maybe some sailing. We don't typically spend a ton of time on the hotel property itself (since usually there is a lot to see elsewhere) so I'm thinking that the construction at The Reefs won't really be a big problem. I am looking into Pompano and Cambridge Beaches now too though-- thanks again for the recommendations/help!

In that case, I second cmc's suggestions for Pompano and Cambridge, as those place you nearest to Somerset, where you can get the ferry to Hamilton for meals and easy access to the dive shop at Somerset Bridge. We drove by the Reefs a few days ago and there is MAJOR work going on - I'm talking cranes and cement trucks - it didn't look very relaxing.

I am a diver and have been pleased with my experiences with Blue Water Divers located at Somerset Bridge (as noted by txgirlinbda). There are a number of sailing concessions and that would be a fantastic way to spend time in Bermuda. It is a sailor's paradise. The diving on the other hand is mainly wreck diving and quite interesting, but you won't see coral and fish on the scale typical of the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, etc.
I stayed at Pompano in December and posted a review on Trip Advisor. Cambridge Beaches has great appeal, but it is very expensive. You might also want to look at Elbow Beach, the oceanfront cottages are exceptionally nice.
Whereever you go in Bermuda, you will be blessed with gorgeous views and a wonderful island to explore. Can you tell I love it?
