There have been many negative posts about the Marriott Grand Cayman Resort. We have a reward vacation to use and would love to see Grand Cayman, but would hate to spend a week in a run down hotel. If you have stayed there can you compare it to any other Marriott's.? Thanks.

I live in Grand Cayman, and can say that the Marriott is a very nice hotel. Its only drawback is the lack of beach due to the swimming pool being built to close to the sand, resulting in wave erosion. If you like, I know people that work there, I can take a look at one of the rooms and write back with a true opinion of what you can expect. It's a great location, and it's only a one minute walk to wonderful beach.

The Marriott on Cayman Islands has an eroded beach. (virtually none) When I stayed at The Westin, I met<BR>several people who checked out of<BR>The Marriot because they were unhappy with the beach or lack of.<BR>The reason we go to an island, especially Caymans, is for the beach. <BR>(And as I mentioned the Westin, I do not reccomend it for others reading this.)<BR>It's a 4 star property with one star for<BR>service. If you are using your Marriot<BR>points, there are other Marriots that offer more than on Cayman Islands.<BR>Good luck and have fun where ever<BR>you decide to vacation.

Hi Amy,<BR><BR>I am actually researching the exact same thing. I am so confused about the Marriott Grand Cayman. I have spoken with Marriott reservations, and they claim to know nothing about the beach at the hotel. I am sure that if I call the hotel direct, they will say it's beautiful. This is a catergory six hotel, consuming most of our points. I have also researched the hurricane that destroyed the beach, (Hurricane Michelle), in November 2001. This was the second time the Marriott's beach had been wiped out. I am seriously considering staying at the Westin instead (the first part of our vacation is at the Hyatt). Afterall, this is a beach vacation right? I do wonder, if Marriott offered to reduce the number of points, if I would decide to stay there. Please post if you find anything else out. I'd love to know more!

There wasn't a lot of beach directly in front of the Marriott when I was there last year.<BR><BR>Just remember though, that 7-Mile beach goes all the way up past the Weston to the Holiday Inn.<BR><BR>A one minute walk and you have a great beach with a lot less people than near the Weston.

I just recently stayed right nextdoor to the Marriot this past March. Although the beach is indeed a bit skinny (about 12-15 feet wide), it's still a very nice hotel. If you were to walk 75-100 yds north, the beach is much wider, maybe a 1 minute walk at most. The reason the beach seems so small is because the hotel trys to jam two rows of beach chairs into that small 12-15 foot wide section. Again, the folks that we met staying there, just walked a VERY short distance to a wider section of beach. The hotel itself seemed very nice, and well maintained. We again stayed directly nextdoor, and wondered over to the Marriot for drinks several times. If you aren't afraid to walk 1 minute away, this property looked fine to us. Unfortunately, the skinny beach gets bad press.

We have a timeshare a couple of doors down from the Marriott. We were there last December (2001), a month after the hurricane. The beach in front of the Marriott was non-existent at that time. I understand that it has come back some since that then. I would like to know how wide the beach there is now, as we will be going back again in December.<BR><BR>We stayed at the Marriott when it was a Raddison a number of years ago. It was nice then. We ate in the restaurant last December and had a good meal. It is a nice hotel, but beach erosion has been a problem that past few years.

I walked by there in July to check it out and the beach was about as wide as 1 lounge chair.

I was n GC last week and the Marriott beach is a few feet wide at best. With regard to walking up to a better section of beach this is possible but not without getting wet - i.e. wading. I believe that Marriott guests were ferried to the beach by the Westin so if you want a full service resort with a good beach maybe you should consider the Westin.

For those people using Marriott points to stay at the Marriott Grand Cayman, I personally do not think that this is one of Marriott's best properties and knowing the level of points it takes to stay at the bigger resort hotels, I think your points would be better used elsewhere. I'm not knocking Marriott because I'm a member of their rewards program also, but I would either go to the Marriott in Aruba if I wanted an island resort or if you really want Grand Cayman, go for the Westin or better yet one of the nicer condos on the northern end of 7 Mile Beach like Coralstone, Avalon or Plantana. The beach is SO much nicer than down at the Marriott and much nicer accommodations.

I was there yesterday for a quick visit and there was literally NO beach. Not one centimeter! Maybe it was high tide, but I don't think so, as the beach looked pretty bad as far as the eye could see in either direction of the Marriott. The water was probably 2 feet deep where the stairs to the "beach" dropped off. I suppose it makes for great snorkeling! The Marriott in Cayman? Thumbs down without a doubt.

For some reason, the employees at The Marriott are less than forth right with the condition of the beach out side their property. <BR>The beach is non existent. Walking is a problem when there is high tide. They should reduce the rates and/or points and then one gets what they pay for.
