Please give me your input re: Turks and Caicos accomodations!!
Hey Fodorites!

Okay, I am seconds away from booking our second trip to Turks and Caicos. After going back and forth between trying out Anguilla or returning to TCI, we decided for budget reasons that we would return. Besides, I can't get the vision of Grace Bay Beach out of my mind!!

Okay, here is the situation. I am trying to decide between two hotels; the Sibonne and Ocean Club West.

If we go to Sibonne, we will pay $970.00 per person, this includes airfare, taxes, charges and airfare. This is for 7 nights. If we go to the nicer resort, Ocean Club West, we will pay $1000 per person for 6 nights.

Is it worth missing an extra day to stay in Ocean Club West as opposed to Sibonne?

Please tell me where on Grace Bay Beach Ocean Club West is. Is it in between the Allegro and Coral Gardens or Allegro and Club Med? I don't remember seeing Ocean Club West.

I know Ocean Club (not West) is next to Club Med and personally I don't want to go that far up. I am hoping Ocean Club West is closer to Ports of Call.

Anyway, the resort itself really isn't super important, but having two pools and a swim up bar sounds nice! Sibonne from what I understand, doesn't have the greatest pool.

I guess in a nutshell, my questions are:

1) Is it worth staying only 6 nights at Ocean Club West when I could stay for 7 at Sibonne?

2) Where is Ocean Club West located on Grace Bay Beach? I really am only familiar with the locations of Allegro, Beaches, Club Med, Coral Gardens, and Sibonne so if you say "It's next to..." I will only know these hotels listed!

3) Which hotel has a better stretch of beach, Sibonne or Ocean Club West? Not that any part of Grace Bay Beach is bad!

One last note: I can not choose another hotel (IE: The Sands) due to budget reasons. I was lucky that I could go to the Caribbean this year due to finances, and while the Sands isn't that much more than Ocean Club West, I still can't afford it.

Thank you all so much!! Hoping for tons of responses! If you have additionaly information, PLEASE feel free to post!

Denise

Ocean Club West is just east of Allegro between Allegro and Grace Bay Club so it is within walking distance of Ports of Call and restaurants--Calico Jacks, Barefoot Cafe, Lattitudes and Caicos Cafe. Do not believe OCW has an evening restaurant yet--just the pool bar and restaurant but they do provide shutle service to Gecko which is the restaurant at OClub. Sibonne os a small resort that is very charming. Rooms over look a court full of flora. They restaurant Bay Bistro is very good. Hemmingways at the Sands is within walking distance and a little further up the road toward Allegro is Cuba Bella. The beach is about the same in either place. The pool is nicer at OCW--Pool at Sibonne is circular and very small. I guess if it were me I would go with OCW. You'll have to keep Anguilla on your list of travel places. It is much like Provo--a little less developed. Have been to each numerous times.

Thank you, Howard. Yes, I came very close to booking a vacation to Anguilla. IN fact, to confuse myself further, I just saw a deal through American Airlines for the Great House on Rendezvous Bay for 7 nights for under $1000 per person!!!

My only concern is the groceries and dining on Anguilla.

Are the groceries and dining more costly in Provo or Anguilla? I assume it is Anguilla, but you never know. If it is comparable, I am going to have a tough choice to make!

Thanks again, Howard!

Turks & Caicos is much nicer in my opinion than Anguilla. Ocean Club West was under construction when we were there a couple years ago but the place looked like it was going to be really nice! We stayed at Ocean Club and it was really nice! OCW is located between the Allegro and Club Med. You can walk to Ocean Club from OCW in about 5 min. and they have a great bar on the beach that has a happy hour for guests with food etc. I was in Anguilla last year and found the people living there were not as friendly as I remembered (most would not even talk to you unless they absolutely had to) from past visits so I will not be going back. I would definitely stay at OCW even if you lose a day. The manager for both properties is an American and very friendly. Have fun!
