Agree with previous post on Samsara in Negril. We go back for two more weeks in Feb02. Put samsara into a search engine and you will get up info on the hotel.

The least expensive place would be Isla Mujeres. A small island off
Cancun. Visit their web sight at
isla-mujeres.net. Click on trip reports and than click on shawn, lorna and tylers trip report of 1/2001.
Also click on places to stay and check out prices. $50-100 will get you a nice romm with A/c.
If you like what you see than e-mail us back and we will e-mail you our 24 page brouchure on the island--we spend a lot of time there. I am the original poster and thought that I would add some imput here. The reason why we have to go that week is that is the time that my son has off for spring break (daughter's break is at the end of March). We live outside of Chicago and could travel from Milwaukee or Chicago for the airport.I really appreciate everyone's imput-so many places that I had never thought of. I would like to ask you all if you felt safe in Jamaica and the Dominican Republic areas? I have been having alot of senior moments lately but I always thought that there were alot of problems down there with thefts, etc. I quess I just wanted one last REALLY terrific vacation as a family so in the future if my son could go with us,he would(for those of you who have college age kids-you know what I mean!).Maybe I should just get a sunlamp, good book and a cheap bottle of wine and call it a day? Keep the info coming..........To the Canadian poster-ironically,my son goes to school up in your country but everytime I try and get Air Canada to give me the prices in CDN-they always give me USD.

For airfare discounts that can often be better than online/sale prices, check
CVOA, the Caribbean Villa Owners and Agents Association site at www.cvoa.com. Travellers to Jamaica are getting flight rates at least $100 lower than most quotes on American and Air Jamaica--as long as you book one of the 60+ Jamaican properties shown on this extensive site. You'll find
a number of private villas, beach cottages and accomodations in Treasure Beach, Port Antonio, Port Maria and other less-touristed Jamaican destinations as well as the DR,a favorite low-cost Canadian 'sunbird' destination. Knowing both countries very well, we vastly prefer Jamaica on every count, safety included.

I too have to travel that week (I'm a teacher). I think that you should try to find a travel agaent who can work for you. With the whole September 11th thing, people are cancelling trips and flights are being changed around. You made be able to sneak in on a bargain. I don't think you can do it by yourself though.

How about Key West, Florida? I've been there many times in February and it's hot! In the upper 80s to low 90s. There's plenty there for a college aged kid to do. The flight wouldn't be that expensive and there are hotels that don't cost an arm and a leg.

Chicago or Milwaukee? No problem. Check with your travel agent about Apple Vacations. The package deal can save you BIG bucks and each week different packages go on sale. However, because it's a charter flight you could get stuck at the airport, probably moreso at O'Hare than at Mitchell, but your vacations choices from O'Hare are greater. We did Apple three times. Once we got stuck at O'Hare for nine hours but the other two out of O'Hare were smooth sailing. Definitely something to consider but I think the pros outweigh the potential cons. They have lots of all inclusive packages or non-AI packages all over the Caribbean and Mexico. These packages include Hotel, airfare, and airport transfers (to and from the resort). Funjet is another company similar to Apple. Let us know where you end up!

I'm sorry but I have to respond to what may quite possibly be the most stupid sentence I've ever read on this forum posted by anon.

anon, You speculated that President's week must be another European Holiday - Think about it, PRESIDENTS week, to honor US presidents??? I think you best go back to school anon. To further explain why so many get Presidents week off, it is the most common school vacation week after Christmas. If the kids are off, so are the parents and teachers of course!

Sorry everyone, I couldn't hold my tongue on this one !!!

Mumsy,

You might like to also check out www.wiredflyer.com. On their website you can click on locate an agency. They have many different agency's to choose from. On all the agency's websites you can tour the hotels for your destination, as well as photo tours on some. And if there are optional tours offered for that destination you can check those out too. Lot's to do in planning your vacation. Keep plenty of notes. Have fun, and have a great family vacation.

Duh, abeautiful: I know President's Day is US. Who wouldn't? Maybe you should go back to school for not knowing this is general information that even an idiot would know. It was mostly a sarcastic statement to the large amounts of vacation earned by the Europeans. But thanks for clearing up why people take vacation that week, i.e., kids being out of school.

Hey abeautiful, I think you take the cake for quite possibly the stupidest sentence ever?

"If the kids are off, so are the parents and teachers of course."

Yeah, maybe in your little world but not in the general population's. Many working parents are unable to take vacation whenever they want (in the US anyway).

Husband and I love going to Mexico in February, usually all adult/all inclusive between Playa Del Carmen and Tulum. Since we’re close and it’s a short flight we’ve been many times and have no need to sightsee, just enjoy a 5 night getaway. We find February usually has nice weather with warm temps but the ocean and pools are pretty chilly. Good luck and enjoy.
