Our Lucaya Westin GBI room choices
Hello. We are planning on traveling to the Our Lucaya Westin on GBI in April of 2005 with our two daughters: 2 and 7.
We are going to use our Starwood points and they gave us an option of upgrading to the Royal Beach Club Level rooms. Has anyone used the Club Lounge and is it worth the upgrade? They say it has breakfast and evening snacks. The other room choice for us was the standard room. Any suggestions on any other rooms at the Westin?
Also is the Camp Lucaya for kids as young as two?
Finally I heard that the Sheraton pool is better for kids. No problem walking there from the Westin, right?
Thanks!

Definitely go with the Club rooms. Standard rooms are lower, you'll get no amenities and the "island view" provided by standard rooms (there are no ocean view standard rooms) is far worse than the Club rooms which are located on the top two floors of the high rise at Breaker's Cay. I also think, but am not certain, beer and wine is part of the deal for the Club rooms. Certainly soft drinks are part of it, or at least were in February and every other year the resort has been open.

You will love the grounds. The pool at Sheraton (Sugar Mill pool) will be best for the kids as it has water slide etc. Is is easy walk. The Westin serpentine pool is very nice as well. While we thought the food in the resort dining options we used (Iries, China Grill, Prop Club) was quite good it is a bit on the expensive side. However, the portions are huge and could easily be shared. Best dining options for less money are across the street in the Port Lucaya Market Place. Lots of good places to eat there. Drinks can also be steep in the resort but here is a good hint - for soft drinks use the vending machines located in the hotel by the ice machines the canned sodas are only $1. Lots more from snack bars.
We really liked the resort and the whole area around it at Port Lucaya. We are already planning to return this fall.

I can't vouch for the club level rooms, I believe they were on floor 10? (Westin) as we saw other visitors using a card in the elevator to get onto floor 10, but we got a room on floor 9 in the Breakers section (Room 902), and we had a corner view of the island, the ocean and property as well as a walk out patio. The view was fantastic. Also, any of the ocean view rooms from that section/floor seemed to be very nice as we walked by the rooms when housekeeping made them up.
The Sheraton pool had urn-type waterfalls and a water slide for kids. Both properties seemed to have rafts available for floating, but I highly recommend if you have a chance, at least once to venture far to the other side of the Westin property near the lighthouse for relaxing in the infinity pool. The Westin property has two of them, first has a swim up bar, but the other farthest near the lighthouse was where we ventured every day just to float and watch the ocean. Saw families/parents in that pool as well with young children, so age won't be prohibitive on either side.
Oh, also, every day and some nights when we were there earlier this month, there is a DJ playing themed music for kids to dance to on the Sheraton side, it looked like a ball for the kids, a couple nights there was a huge gathering of kids there, and I recall hearing music playing a few nights until 11:00 p.m.

You'll have a wonderful time at Our Lucaya. caribtraveler and I went about the same time and we both very much anjoyed it. I'm debating going with my kids in August as it was sans children the last time. I would definitely upgrade to the best room accomodation that you can as it can really make a difference here. The pools and ocean are fabulous and if you want casual dining(I prefer it with small children in the evening), the marketplace across the street has some nice choices. Have fun. Threehearts
