Our Lucaya Sheraton or Westin

I emailed a while back about traveling to this resort with three kids under 8 years old. I've read enough to know that the Westin is less family oriented than the Sheraton but could I stay there with the 3 kids or will I get dirty looks? Should I stay there is a more accurate question? What resort and which building/view would be most convenient for me with the three kids? Easily accessible to the best pool, restaurants, and marketplace? My parents will probably be coming with us too - but they will want their privacy and some time away from the three grandchildren!

A different question ... flying from Boston in April of 2008, a family of 5, what do you think it'll cost us for one week? Are the extra tax/service/hotel charges applicable to all ages?

This is basically our first trip (besides Disney) with the three kids and I know it's going to be a budget buster so I want to make sure the choice I make is the best one.

With kids and family I would stay at the sheraton side. There will be more activities etc on that side. The westin side had more adults, although I would have to say when we went there were some rowdy adults at the westin pool.

Westin's Breaker's Cay is easily the best of the three "hotels" on the resort property. It is the middle of the three (the other two being Sheraton Reef Village and Westin Lighthouse Pointe), and not more than 4-5 minutes walk to all the activities for kids at the Sheraton. If money is not a great object I'd say Breaker's Cay is the choice, hands down. If you throw in an ocean view room there are none that can compare to the views from Breaker's Cay, even on the second floor. The taxes and fees include a 12% per night room tax, $8 per person service charge (12 and over), and a $4 per person (over 12), resort fee. I think one of those fees may have been raised and seem to recall it being the tax, but I'm not sure of that. That resort fee includes activities for kids at the resort's Camp Lucaya for kids, located next to Reef Village. You will NOT get dirty looks for having kids at Breaker's Cay. We've stayed there 9-10 times and lots of folks have their kids and I've not noticed any untoward words or actions related to that. Sheraton Reef Village isn't a bad place to stay, and most of the kid's activities are located there, but with the proximity of Westin's Breaker's Cay (10 stories) I'd recommend it unless you are worried about the extra expense.

You also might check some of the online travel agencies you may be able to get a better price through them, like www.libertytravel.com or www.expedia.com

Have a great time.

Pretty much agree with Danny, except you could save some bucks by staying at Sheraton. Remember that all the facilities are available to all guests regardless of which hotel you are in. The kid that would appeal more to kids is closer to the Sheraton. One bit of advice is to be prepared for very high food and drink prices on the hotel property. This can be offset by walking across the street to the market place to eat and/or buy some food for the room.

Have fun it is a really nice place.
