Negril...problem with spring breakers?
My husband & I are planning a trip to celebrate our 40th birthdays & after reading many of these posts, decided that Negril best fits the bill. We are only going for 4 nights & traveling from NY area so the non-stop from JFK is nice. We have a few weekends this winter that are a possibility but the first weekend in March works best. Are we going to hit massive spring break crowds? If yes, what are the months to avoid going? I know they have a rainy season but when exactly does that begin? How do we get from the airport to Negril? We are planning to stay at Idle Awhile & they had availability when I called last night so wanted to firm everything up today. thanks for all of the valuable info on these boards!!!

Depends on the resort but you very well may have spring breakers. Kids have a lot more money than I did back then. Essentially all of March and most of April can be spring break season for the college crowd, but early March is probably less problematic that mid to late March. A more upscale place is also less attractive to college kids than someplace like Hedonism.
Rainy season is usually summer so I wouldn't worry too much about that.

That's the early part of Spring Break. The middle of the month is the biggest chunk. I've read before that Idle Awhile doesn't get many breakers. You'll love it there, atleast I did 3 weeks ago when I was there! Go for it because they can sell out with only 14 rooms.

mamamia,
as Dantheman says it only has 14 rooms - although i thought it was 13
If you want to stay there then don't waste time - Have you booked yet?
It's a wonderful little resort, very quiet and relaxing - let us know how it goes.
Don't forget to buy from the 'pattie man' and get jerk chicken from the 'best of the west' over the road from Idle Awhile - it's delicious!

It should be all right. They travel in packs. For the most part they are on a package from a SB company that has included parties - unlimited rum here, all you can eat pizza there, beer and wet t-shirts over there. They tend to go to those and not really be in regular bars and restaurants.
They can ruin a quiet acation if you happen to be at one of the party hotels but Idle isn't.
If you get really tired of seeing them go up to the cliffs, they hardly go up there anymore.
Personally I found it kind of nice to have the beach so crowded, even at 4AM I felt perfectly comfortable walking down the beach alone.
