Liked Jumby Bay & 4S Maui -- will we like Firefly (Mustique)?

Hi-

We just got back from a terrific vacation at Jumby Bay and also loved our honeymoon at the Four Seasons Maui. We are currently researching vacations for next year. Firefly in Mustique is a front-runner based on reviews. But, I also have heard such wonderful things about Cap Juluca. Can you sway me in either direction -- we want something on par with our other vacations. Food is somewhat important, as is a nice beach and some pampering.

If not Firefly or Cap Juluca...where?

Firefly is a very small (5 rooms) upscale hotel located on the hill above the bay on Mustique. Service is impeccable. Mustique is a very small island (you can explore the entire island in under 45 minutes) that feels and looks more like an exclusive "gated country club community" rather than a Caribbean island. There's not a blade of grass out of place on the island and the houses and villas are very upscale (think life styles of the rich and famous). There is one small convenience shop and the renowned beach bar know as Basil's. There is nothing to do on this island but sit on the beach, sit on a porch, sit under a tree, swim, read a book and have a drink at the bar.

Cap Juluca is more akin to the type of resort you found at the Four Seasons. It's on a beautiful white sand beach (one of 35 on the island, has three very good restaurants (out of 80+ on the island), lot's of watersports.

Unless you are seeking a very quite "boutique hotel" type vacation you probably want to pass on Mustique.

Thanks so much! Jumby Bay was a lot like that -- 300 acres with a country club sort of feel. However, there were 40 rooms, so that is a big change from five. But, it sounds very nice. I know that food is included in the rate. How pricey are the drinks?

The all inclusive rate at Jumby includes
all drinks by the glass. They have all
upmarket liquor---and decent wine.

We love Jumby--and we love Cap Juluca
and Anguilla.

The Firefly and Mustique are experiences you will never have anywhere else in the Caribbean. Imagine having an island at your disposal. No worries about crime, getting lost or crowds. At the Firefly you really do feel as though you are staying at someone's villa and you can do whatever you want. They will deliver picnics to you at whatever beach you decide. I loved my experience there. If that sounds too small for you, you might want to consider Raffles Resort on Canouan for great food, great beaches and lots of pampering.
