last minute trip, where?

we're considering a last minute trip (for a long wkend) to somewhere warm. We would be traveling from NYC. Looking for some deals and would love to be pampered on some gorgeous pool side/beach resort. Right now we're considering Puerto Rico, Bahamas and (slightly boring option), Miami. Thinking of mid November. Any suggestions? What is the weather like that time of year? Right now seems to be a lot of rain in the forecast and would really like to avoid rain for such a short trip. Thx!

Turks and Caicos would be quick direct flight from NYC. Beautiful beaches, good restaurants and many great resorts to choose from.

The weather in the 3 destinations on your list can be significantly different. You can get average wetather statistics for just about any destination at: www,weatherbase.com or www.wunderground.com

Generally the further south you go the warmer it will be. You are considering a trip to the tropics and in November there's always a chance of some rain no matter where you go. Usually showers are brief and very localized but you are dealing with Mother Nature and prolonged periods of ran can and do happen.

No one can guarantee you a rain free trip but the aforementioned Turks & Caicos are relatively arid islands so that's a good bet. You can reach Provodenciales non-stop from NYC so that's a big plus. The Bahamas tend to be arid but do get periods of rain and clouds. Puerto Rico, since it is mountainous will have more chance of rain.

Personally, I wouldn't try to choose an island based soley trying to minimize the chances of encountering rain, it's just too difficult to predict. Rather you should choose an island that you can get to fairly easily and that has the ambiance you'd like to experience. Chances are you'll have decent weather.

Thanks for the detailed posts--very helpful. It's true I should not be so swayed by the chance of rain, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't selecting a destination where it was common knowledge to be "rainy season". Made that mistake once before! Would love to continue to hear feedback. Thanks again.

We have used to great satisfaction www.travel.aol.com for their last minute travel packages. They include airfare and hotel or car. We've used them 4-5 times for trips to France, California and to the Caribbean. The prices are phenomenal. Right now in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, it is a beautiful 78-82 degrees. The water temperatures are still fairly warm, and there aren't crowds because it is still off-season. We're thinking of taking a trip in mid November too, to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

How "built up" is T & C? Just curious...as we have not locked into a destination for this summer!

Go Hokies!!!!!!!!!

Still thinking an add on to St. Kitts/Nevis, again....but.....

iw,

I wouldn't compare Nevis to T&C.

It's probably as built up as Nevis (never been to St Kitts) but since the beach (especially Grace Bay) is one long beach then you do get the feeling of it being 'busier'.

We drove round both islands (T&C in 2005, Nevis this year) and found them both as sleepy and relaxing.

We loved Coral Gardens for the easy snorkeling outside the resort and we loved Nisbet for the relaxing atomsphere.

Happy hunting
