Honeymoon resort help please!
Everything we've researched so far, on the very helpful forum, seems to indicate we should not worry about an AI option for meals in Barbados. It sounds like there many great restaurants and we can't wait to explore. We will be celebrating our honeymoon in October and could use some advice: 7 days or 10 days? West side of the island or other? Little Arches, Silver Point Villas, Sandpiper, Coral Reef Club or Fairmont? We have done so much research but really just hoping to have a romantic getaway, mostly adults, not too stuffy, good for young thirty-somethings, great service, top notch accommodations and within relatively close proximity to good food and nightlife.
Any help is so greatly appreciated!!
Thank you : )

Hi rousecasey congratulations on your upcoming wedding. We stayed in the St Lawrence Gap area where there were tons of places to eat. We travel all over the entire island and never lacked a variety of restuarants. I am not sure where the hotels you choose are located but wherever you stay will be nice. We stayed near all of the nightlife in the Gap. Barbados is a great island. Write a trip report when you come back.

St. Lucia would be perfect for your up comming honeymoon. There are so many breath taking resorts you can choose from eg Ti Kaye Village, Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort, CoCo Palm and The Village in and Spa. These are one of the few resorts we have had accommodations at thanks to the courtesy of the staff from serenitytvl.com. Each of these resorts has a tale to tell. The staff are so friendly and amazing when ever I visit St. Lucia it is always so difficult on my depature day. What really have me going are the tours and excursations with serenity. The islands of the caribbean are very beautiful but when it comes to St. Lucia there is some type of force pulling me to this magical island and I will continue visiting over and over. I know it will be perfect for your up comming honeymoon since I honeymoon there as well. Asked for John Or Carrol when you reserved and it will be no regret. I can also share their 1800 number if you intrested. Have a great time in St. Lucia if you choose that island we always do.

Thank you for the tip on St. Lucia. We hesitate because we have been told by so many to improve our odds of pleasant October weather by staying South of St. Lucia a little ways.
Right now we are torn between Barbados and Mustique. Can anyone comment on the Fairmont, Sandpiper, Colony Club or Coral Reef Club in Barbados? We really prefer to be able to go back and forth from the beach to the resort without having to worry so much about "dress code." Seems like some of the resorts are very particular about dress even during lunch.
Is the West die of Barbados the better resort side by the way? Closer to nightlife and shopping?
Has anyone stayed at Firefly in Mustique? It looks so fun and romantic, but we're unsure how difficult it would be to get to.
Thanks!!

If you want even a little bit of nightlife and shopping, Musqtique probably isn't the best way for you to go. In October it will be even quieter than usual.
I've only stayed on the west coast of Barbados, and it was pretty far north near Speightstown (Cobblers Cove), so we had a 30-45 minute haul to go just about anywhere. But I loved the serenity and the beaches where we were. Whether you'd be better off staying near the Gap or on the west coast depends most on your personal preference.

We discovered many wonderful restaurants on both of our trips to Barbados. We stayed for a week the first time and a couple of days the second time before heading down to Palm Island. I would have liked to remain a few more days, especially as it is a part of the Caribbean that takes us a while to get to. So, if you can do 10 days, go for it! We stay at the Hilton on the southern part of the island and are undisturbed by kids as there haven't been that many. And, of course, we spent a fair amount of time checking out the natural beauty of the island.
Sorry, we haven't been to any of the other hotels. We like the pristine, white powder beach that the Hilton offers. We stayed on one of the executive floors. We had two balconies, each overlooking a different body of water. We found the food to be excellent at breakfast and during the nightly cocktail hour. The accommodations and service are fairly luxurious. We can't wait for our third trip.
As far as Mustique goes, we flew in and out of there on our way to Palm Island and back. It is possible you would have to spend the night in Barbados and catch a flight there the following day. I understand that you may want to be alone because it is your honeymoon, but I think you may find it to be too quiet. You would probably enjoy the sun, sand and sea in Barbados more -even if it is not as secluded.

The latest Fodors book on Barbados and St. Lucia was just released on June 17, 2008. It is very detailed, yet quite short since it only includes the two islands. It might help you make your decision.
As for us, we chose Barbados for nine days.
Have fun and Happy Honeymoon!

If you're travelling without children I definitely suggest the Fairmont Royal Pavilion in Barbados. It's a luxury hotel, and is cosy and intimate, it's very nice and has a relaxed atmosphere, and never feels crowded, the service in my opinion the services was fantastic. Definitely not a snotty luxury property

I spent my honeymoon in Barbados, 4 nights at the Crane and 4 at Fairmont Royal Pavillion. While the Crane was charming and beautiful, I must preferred the west side of the island and think you'd be happy at the Fairmont. A deciding factor for us was that all rooms were oceanfront, while at many other hotels we could only afford the garden room. The food in Barbados is amazing! Expensive, but worth it.
