Half Moon Lover

This beautiful resort in Jamaica is my favorite destination. I call it my home away from home. Actually long to return. Would love to here from others who have visited the Half Moon in Montego Bay to share our experiences.

To JAGIRL: No, we have always stayed at the Half Moon where I've made many personal friends. I appreciate your suggestions. Do you consider Round Hill or Tryal an even better destination?

I've never stayed at either one. I live in Jamaica so the need has never arisen!

Half Moon is located in one section of Mobay and Tryal and Round Hill are situated at the opposite end.

Two different experiences.

This beautiful resort in Jamaica is my favorite destination.

And then there's Jamaica Inn and then again the south coast and Portland.

To Jagirl: "wha gwan sistren?" Do I ever envy you! I love your island country and its people. I've read a lot about your history. We've also been to Negril which was wonderful. I'm drawn back to the Half Moon because of friends I've made there. I know I am a tourist, and service with a smile earns tips, but I think there are several individuals there who remember us fondly, just as I do each of them. I love the soft ,musical patois you speak. I wish I could find something other than a little phrase book to learn more. You need to hear a dialect to learn it. Kind regards

I'm thinking there are very few posting here who remember Half Moon as it once was ;-)

I visited in 1970 when Montego Bay airport was little more than an airplane hangar and most of the roads were unpaved.

Half Moon had a traditional and pristine Caribbean style, and it was small and intimate. Jamaicans were trying to understand tourists and at least my *ears* tried to hear them.

Progress, I guess, for the large resort Half Moon has become...but when I pass by on my way to another destination on island, I still wish for the way it once was.

It's probably a sign of MY age to wish for the *good ole days* all over the world

Marion, I know it has grown, but I still find it a very intimate place. Go back, my dear.

twigs

You may not speak it but you sure write patois well, man.

I have a personal bias for the south coast - Treasure Beach in particular.
I used to go every year but I haven't been back down there for a couple of years now.

twigs, you just wait till Tiverton gets a hold of you! You'll be a south coast convert in no time!

Right Marion?

I know you didn't sweet woman, because I have an idea of your age ;-)

I imagine that Tiverton could describe, more eloquently, the Jamaica of days past ;-)

Please note that I didn't say "old" in reference to Tiverton's wisdom

Which reminds me. I haven't seen good "old" Tiv in a while. Wonder where that young man is?

twigsbuddy,

I certainly understand a positive feeling/endorsement of a favored resort.

You posed a question that brought back memories for me. And I was just trying to remember when and share some thoughts.

Bless your heart, I know you understand.
