Hair Braiding in Aruba?

My sister and I are staying at the Allegro Resort in Aruba at the end of June. We want to get our hair braided as soon as we get there. Where should we go to get braids? The hotel or somewhere in town? We have never been to Aruba so please be specific. Thanks in advance!!!

There is probably someone at your resort who can do it and I strongly suggest that because we had our daughters done in town and the women used grease in her hair to make braiding easier, charged .50 cents more per braid and the beads kept falling out. We kept getting them "repaired" at our resort and the women was cheaper and much cleaner and instead of sitting on an uncomfortable chair in the back of the store she could have sat comfortably by the beach or pool. If your resort doesn't have someone to do it, the Wyndham does. They also have a great happy hour although the women usually do the braiding earlier in the day. It was $1.50 a braid. Keep in mind that while it may look nice while you are on vacation, it always takes longer than what they tell you. You have a greater chance of getting your scalp burned by the sun because it's more exposed and you get a lot of breakage when trying to take them out.

Kim-

I stayed at the Marriott Aruba Resort & Casino, and she braided my hair there. I don't remember what the cost was, but kind of expensive. The Marriott is a nice walk from your resort. The Marriott is the last high rise resort.

But as I can remember, some of the resorts did have their own "braid lady" on site!

It is a fun thing to do on vacation, but bear in mind, it kind of hurts when you sleep, and when you take them out...BEWARE!!

I agree with the previous poster - beware! If you have long, curly hair, taking them out will be a nightmare not to mention the damage they do.

My daughter has long, curly hair and has just a couple on each side done so the damage is minimal.

When we stayed at the Marriott Ocean Club last year, we just walked next door to the Marriott Resort and there was a Bahamian woman who did them there in the shaded area between the pool and beach.

Miss "Roxy", Maybe you should get a life since obviously you have nothing better to do than insult people.

My daughter has fine, curly hair - got it braided on a trip in April. Taking it out is tedious, but not horrible. As far as beads hurting, it is possible to gently pull it up or back to sleep in.

You can get your hair braided downtown at the corner of the end of the fruiit vendor's area. There are a few booths there. I think it may be cheaper than at the hotels. Getting a scalp sunburn IS an issue tho. I would wait till about 2 days before heading home.
