Grace Bay or Parrot Cay?
Hi, I've read alot of great info on this site. I do have a question. But before that, I want to put in my 2 cents on kids. I have one. He is very well traveled and well behaved, a great 14 year old. He is ALSO appalled at the behavior of so many kids in places we travel. What parents allow their kids to do really bothers me. Even though I travel with a kid, we actually NEVER do the kid stuff because so many of them are so misbehaved. Makes me sad. Especially whenever I ask for advice and they know I have a kid and immediately write off my questions! Please don't. He is a VERY adult kid, probably more than me! Wants to be a field biologists, or animal field researcher. This brings me to my question. I know that Provo does some Eco tour stuff (big reason we're going), but we love the snorkeling, good food..and yes, quiet atmosphere, secluded beaches, exploring. I've looked at Turks & Caicos club, Grace Point and Parrot Cay. They ALL looked great. The PC has yoga (which interests us both..he is really into zen stuff), T&C looks private and quiet, Grace Point is also very pretty. So...any suggestions? Beachfront is a must. It's our first time to these islands (cancelled out Kenya trip due to the riots), so I really need some qualified opinions on these properties. We usually due Condos or Villas, but since we are new to the area we thought having someone around to point in the right direction the first time is a good idea.
Any opinions would be appreciated.
We are arriving in the islands about May 2 and have 11 days.
Thanks!

Why not split, with 3 nights Parrot Cay, 7-8 nights on Provo.
The reason for Provo, is more access to excellent restaurants, and better for excursions, especially eco-type. (Check out Big Blue for excursions)
Easy to split, get the best of all the worlds.
Point Grace and T&C Club are the quieter properties. You'll find more crowds at Grace Bay Club.

Thanks. That helps alot! We actually only have 7-8 days on Provo...then I want to see Grand Cayman for a couple of days. Perhaps 4 at Grace Point or t&C and 3 at PC? How do we get to Grand Cayman? Can you rent a boat..a nice one, or fly from maybe Provo? Thanks so much for your help!

I've been going to T&C for years - many before all the development and often as a family. I think you might enjoy being at Grace Bay Club. Grace Bay Club has a reputation for doing everything right and with simple elegance. They have a new condo section which might suite your needs well. GBC somehow is more appealing than Grace Point or T&C Club (which is very quiet).
While you're there make sure you get out on a boat often - the water is magical. Plan to spend a day on North and on Middle - both of which are very different from Provo (far less developed and with more vegetation and wildlife). You'll find lots of excursions and snorkeling spots to choose from. My favorite for snorkeling is Smith's Reef at the very end of Grace Bay Beach before it becomes Turtle Cove.

Another spot you might enjoy is Abaco in "the out islands" of the Bahamas. You can stay on one island and take a short ferry to 4 or 5 others for exploring. Beaches are gorgeous, nearly empty, and it has a very laid back eco friendly environment. We've been there twice in May. It's my second favorite island group next to T&C.

Please do not bomb me but we did not enjoy Grace Bay at all (5 night stay). Grace Point, Point Grace are 2 we visited and eat llunch or dinner at and thought were quiye impressive. These last 2 will have some activities for your son but they are not large resorts so keep that in mind. Parrot Cay is a little "into itself" we felt after a 6 night stay and at a pretty high price. Also, it will kill 4+ hours getting to and from Parrot Cay to your chosen resort on Provo so you need a 3-4 night stay to make it worth splitting.

We have been to both Point Grace and Parrot Cay. It really is not bad at all getting to Parrot Cay from Point Grace, we checked out and hopped on the water shuttle to Parrot Cay and were able to get onto that beautiful beach within a few hours. Point Grace is a great place in a really wonderful location in Provo. What we liked about it was that it was a VERY quiet place. It does have more of a villa type feel with oceanfront units. The advantage to Provo as mentioned before are the restaurant and activity choices. That being said, we preferred Parrot Cay to Provo. The atmosphere there is very zen and the staff is wonderful. We loved the daily yoga and the spa is amazing. The beach is one of the most beautiful I have ever seen. They do have beachfront units which are on the pricey side. We stayed in an oceanfacing room which has a great view but is a 3-5 min walk down to the beach (not really that far!)
Parrot Cay is a great place but it is also quiet and you are limited in restaurant choices. We thought the food was great. We didn't see any kids while at Point Grace. We did see maybe 2 families with toddlers at Parrot Cay. For the most part both places are very quiet and as long as your son is fine with that you should be okay. There might be more options/activities for him on Provo, walking the beach, snorkeling, tours etc.
I wouldn't hesitate splitting between Provo and Parrot Cay, we did it and thought it was no problem. If we were to go back... we would go straight to Parrot Cay!
