Goldeneye Construction

Good evening everyone!

We are lookig into spending part of our honeymoon at Goldeneye.
One recent review I read on tripadvisor, a rather negative review, mentioned that either construction was going on right now to create time shares, or that construction may be over by December of this year.

Does anyone here have any more information on this? We have always wanted to visit Goldeneye and will be going to Jamaica in late January. If construction is going on, does anyone know if they are building the time share residences within the resort or, if like the caves, it is separated by a decent amount of space.

Any information would be greatly helpful!
Many thanks!

Chris Blackwell is developing Goldeneye
into an 80-some villa/cottage 'private club' property with tours now being given by jet ski of potential building sites. Pricing starts at US$500K to a
mil and up. The original property/house
and villa cottages continue as rentals.
Recommend calling/not e-mailing islandoutpost.com directly to find out
what up for late January.

Thank you as always Tiverton.
In case anyone else is curious, construction does not begin until July!

Tho you may be loathe to leave the
property (and good you will see it
before it changes), find a driver and
go up to Moneague, thru Fern Gully
out of Ochie/Ocho Rios to have dinner
in the moutains at the wonderfully romantic and award-winning Cafe Aubergine. The food is classic French-Jamaican high style. Google it for their online site.

Many many thanks for this suggestion!
We will certainly take your advice.
May I ask, as you I have seen your website, and clearly you are the authority..
would it make any sense for us, despite our itinerary being set, to hand it over to a travel agent? my fiance seems to believe that they can often make the trip sommth as well as 'budle' resorts and transfers together and give us a better overall (hate this word) 'deal'.
What are your thoughts on this?

Few travel agents (Sandals, Bahia Principe and Riu bookers don't count at all for what you're looking for)
know Jamaica first-hand -- or in any depth outside the AIs and the obvious diversions. They don't make enuf commission to make it worth their while. So I doubt you'll find benefits/
savings in having an agent
package anything for you. Where will you be before and after Goldeneye?

We are looking at Caves for 5 nights prior to goldeneye and before that 3 nights elswhere. We thought Strawberry Hill, but we would be circumnavigating the island!
fiance wants a beach so we are looking at half moon, though I don't love how large it is, or Coyaba.
Have to say, by the photos, don't fully understand how this resort has been listed with SLH. Not to be rude but it looks so simiar to almost every other mass AI I have seen, floral bedspread, low rise many rooms etc.
Perhaps you can shed some light, because I am certanly not the authority on JA or an authority on taste sadly!

Islandoutpost offers or used to a 'package' of sorts that combined
Goldeneye with Strawberry Hill with
the Caves-- with drivers. So check in with them first as all 3 props are
members. It's a honeymoon, you're going 'high=style'. After 1, 2, or
3 of the islandoutpost.com properties
(if they offer Jake's as part of the package for a couple of nights, make sure you get the new
OCTOPUSSY self-standing units ONLY), the size of HalfMoon can seem daunting
(tho you can hideaway here in style)
and Coyaha doesn't fit your profile.
No need to apologize whatsoever for
elitism or sense of style. It's a honeymoon and you only do it once
so why not pull out all the stops --
and NOT 'settle' for anything less
than the top. As for flights, you
can find 'deal rates' online generally better than TAs. And they normally don't handle air and islandoutpost
properties.

There are a couple of specialistTAs who focus on custom planning for the general Caribbean/and a bit of Jamiaca
listed under Wendy Perrin's Travel Agent annual listing in Conde Nast
Traveler (US edition) and also via a lilnk from www.concierge.com
If you're time-compresssed and would
feel more comfortable handing it off,
check them out. There are consultant
fees/minimum generaly US$100 and up
but sometimes worth it if you really
'hit it off' with an agent who seems
to actually and intuitively 'know'
you -- and Jamaica.

Island Outpost seems to have a "best rate" guarantee if you book through them directly:

http://islandoutpost.com/reservation...ate_guarantee/

...and of course they can arrange transfers in between whichever hotels you choose too.
