Getting married at Cap Juluca in July
I am getting married at Cap Juluca in July and can't get a feel for what I want for flowers or cake or my fiance's attire(suit or tux?) Verna didn't help me much in that area. Has anyone seen weddings there or has anyone been married there that can give me some ideas? If anyone has pictures they are willing to share, please drop me an email. I sure would appreciate it! Thanks, Jodi
Haven't been to wedding at Cap, but saw one at Cuisinart, which is roughly the same level of resort. I don't remember
seeing any tuxes...remember July will be quite warm and the summer months are even more casual. The breezes still make the weather very tolerable but jackets aren't often seen in summer...
The local flowers are used extensively and are quite available.

Hi Jodi, your wedding should be very nice. We stay at Cap Juluca, and have been on the island one May during a large wedding. The bride wore a trad. white gown and the men tuxs. As the above poster mentioned it can be warm, but Maundays Bay usually has a nice breeze. A wedding no matter where you have it is personal, do what you want. If you go to Bob Greens' www.news.ai/
Go to the index-under weddings, you will see a few photos.

We got married on Shoal Bay beach at sunset (2 years ago)! I did use a local wedding planner for the minister and license arrangements etc. As for the flowers, they were very simple (Anguilla is quite arid). If you have any specific questions, feel free to email me.

I got married 5 years ago, May 20, on Meads Bay at sunset. We used a wedding planner, Sunshine Lady and they provided all the flowers for us, they were simple and fresh. It was very hot & I did not want to wear the hot heavy gown I brought with me. I found an adorable white sarong dress in a shop at the Sonesta and wore that. My husband wore white shorts and a new Anguilla collared t shirt. It was a beautiful and romantic ceremony. I saw other couples getting married that week wearing everything from white bathsuits to formal dresses.

Jodi,
I attended a wedding at Cap Juluca this winter. First of all it was beautiful. The wedding itself was great and all the guests and myself had a wonderful time at the resort.

The groom wore a suit, not a tux and looked fine. the rest of the men were casual. If your fiance wants to wear a tux, I'm sure it will look fine. It was nice that the male guests weren't required to wear suits because it was warm and it would have been a hassle to bring them (especially taking them on the ferry from St. Maarten).

For flowers they used local flowers, mostly orchids. they looked tropical and very beautiful. To be honest I don't remember the cake.

They had their reception at George's which was closed for us for the event. It was a lot of fun.

I don't want to freak you out but I hae to tell you that you need to be careful about the photographer. I don't know who my friends used (whether it was someone Verna recommended or not) but NONE of their pictures came out. I can not understand how a professional photographer could ruin multiple rolls of film but he did. Of course it may hae been a freak incident but I would check into who you are using for a photographer, not pay anything until you get your photos back and be sure to ask your guests to take plenty of photos just in case. We did that so my friends do have lots of photos just not professional ones.

We went to Cap Juluca last year and saw four weddings during our stay. (One of them asked us to join as guests!) In terms of attire, the brides wore white dresses ranging from a slipdress and no shoes to a formal but summery wedding gown. The most formal groom wore a olive green suit. The least formal groom wore a white linen shirt and a pair of khaki linen pleated trousers. I really can't envision wearing a tuxedo in that environment. It strikes me as kind of like playing dress up without regard to whether it works in the venue. (Don't get me started -- I also dislike it when people wear tuxedos to daytime weddings.) We're getting married on an island too, and my fiancee is wearing a suit. I'm wearing a wedding dress, but it has no crinoline or anything, and it has a lace overdress that comes off after the ceremony to reveal a simple slip dress.

Regarding flowers and cake, the cake they made was fine. It was your basic cake -- chocolate with vanilla icing. (I never forget a cake!) Regarding flowers, they have this arch thing that they bring out if you want it that's made out of sort of tall grasses bent around a frame. It was okay. They use a lot of local flowers. I wouldn't stress out about the kind of flowers. The place is so nice, there on the water, that I can't imagine it won't look beautiful. The wedding I went to was very small, and was catered in one of the very large suites, so I have no insight into what Georges or Pimms look like set up for a wedding.

Congratulations!
