ANY PLACE on St. John!!!! Cinnamon Bay over Trunk Bay. We rented a small offshore that we captained, snorkeled at Waterlemon Cay. Cleared customs in Tortola and snorkeled the Indians and lunch and libations at the Willie T on Norman Island. Headed to Sandy Cay. Was the best day of the trip - or was that the day of scuba, or the day trip to Jost Van Dyke and White Bay, or the day jeeping around the island and stopping to snorkel at every little bay we found? The were all best days and St. John is heaven on earth!

I too would love your feedback as to the best island in the Caribbean to go to however, we have certain criteria that has worked for us in Mexico. We have enjoyed the all-inclusives and we're beach bums at heart. We're in our early 50's so prefer a destination geared for adults. Low humidity, white clean beaches, somewhat of a nightlife and most importantly no high-rises and not crowded. I like to stay in a villa or room overlooking the ocean and soooo close to the beach (that's essential). Day trips aren't the most important thing to us; but good diving is. So, staying on a mountain top wouldn't be attractive to us. With all of this in mind, will you let me know what you think? And what is the best, warmest and least humid time of the year. Thanks

Rent a Zodiac in Cruz Bay and take it to Waterlemon Cay first (25 minute scenic ride). It's gorgeous and has great snorkeling. Pull up to one of Caneel Bay's beaches and relax. A greatway to spend a 1/2 day or full day. If you rent a Zodiac get the larger of the 2 models.

Cinnamon Bay and Hawksnest. I had read books that said they would be crowded but by other beaches in the Carribean standards they were empty.

Also recommend a day sail, the smaller the better. Liked the sails to small bays and (If you are a drinker) Foxy's. Didn't like the Baths.

We have a timeshare and I LOVE IT. Can't wait to go back (in December). Enjoy!

Hawknest Beach was absolutely beautiful and peaceful. Enjoyed touring the Annanberg Plantation ruins. Self touring the island in a rented jeep and just going everywhere is great. Dinner at the Lime Inn is also good.

By now you can see that it is hard to go wrong at just about any place in St. John. Watermelon Bay has the best snorkeling. It's a hike, but it's worth it.

Trunk Bay, Hawksnest, and Cinnamon Bay are scenic and have good snorkeling.

I was a little disappointed with Salt Pond.

The Reef Bay trail is excellent and has a waterfall.

Consider staying in a villa as opposed to a resort if you want a private, back-to nature experience. If you have kids, a resort may be better.

Asolare was expensive but well worth it.

Thanks to all on this website, I just returned from one of the best vacations of my life in St. John. I stayed at Gallows Point and enjoyed it a great deal. I loved how I was in walking distance of all the restaurants and shops. I booked all my day trips through their conceirge, St. Johns Adventures Unlimited. I highly recommend a trip to the British Virgin Islands on a power boat called Pirates Penny or the sister ship, Stormy Petrel. I liked that there were only 7 other passengers on board. We had the crew's undivided attention. They showed us places in the Baths I would have never seen on my own. They even showed us a great place to jump off the rocks into the water.

Every meal we had in St. John's was great. My favorite was at the restaurant at Gallow's Point...ZoZo's. I had the osso bucca and my husband had the sea bass. Both were heavenly. Also ate at The Stone Terrace which was great but the waitress ruined the meal with heavy upselling. She scowled and gave us attitude when we didn't start off with drinks or end with dessert. That was the only unpleasant experience. Most everyone we encountered, especially the locals, were very friendly.

I highly recommend making reservations for dinner. We experienced a problem with that most evenings because I failed to make reservations ahead of time. Our days were so busy, I had a hard time figuring out when we would be able to wrap everything up without missing something.

As previously mentioned through this website by several folks, be sure to rent a jeep for at least a day. Pay the extra money for a better car rental. My little 4 cylinder suzuki had a tough time on the hills.

I can't wait to go back because I know I missed out by only staying 5 days.

Be sure to tell us all about it when you return!

Thanks to all for the wonderful information! Our trip is now less than a month away and I'm reading back through your posts and compiling a list of places we'll try to hit. Though this is going to be our first visit to St John, I already have a feeling it will be far from our last!!
