Can a vacation to the Cayman's be done at all inexpensively?

On our first cruise, we visited Grand Cayman and fell in love with it. Am considering planning a trip there post holidays or next spring. Any pointers on how this can be done under $3000? Also interested in learning about any All Inclusives there. Thanks!

Condos are the way to go on GC. Even the island's best hotels are not great compared to many other islands, and they are about as exorbitantly priced as any hotels in the Caribbean. Condos are great, though the services are lacking, of course.
Airfare to GC is rarely cheap. That's usually the kicker.
Check out caymanvacations.com and caymanvillas.com for photos and prices of lots of different places.

Cayman Lover,
That's going to be tough for under $3000. I agree that a condo would be the way to go to save money on meals. Also, plan your trip during off season, April 15th - Dec 15th, half the price for accomodations. Bring liquor from home if you drink, and buy beer for the condo instead of hitting the bars. The AI's on GC are not the greatest and are more expensive than what you want to spend. If you stay somewhere besides beachfront, you can save money. Like Jack pointed out, airfare is usually high, so check for deals. I consider anything under $500 round trip, per person, a great deal coming from Ohio. Try to stay somewhere that you won't need a car. If you can pull this off, your my "Hero"!!! Let us know what you find and good luck!
Sandy

I'll be leaving for the Grand Cayman next month for 2 days staying at the Spanish bay Reef resort all inclusive, as I realized that restaurants and bars would be expensive. However I will be still going out and about. Can you recommend any good "spots"? Any and all information about the island from someone who's bee would be appreciated!

Deals can be found on airfare. I'm flying from Florida almost Alabama and my flight was $215 round trip. I noticed today USAir has specials in the $300 range round trip from Boston.

For cheaper air you might try ata.com. They just recently started flying to Cayman.

We spent two inexpensive weeks on Grand Cayman in August. We rented an apartment at the Turtle Nest Inn - www.turtlenestinn.com and it was beautiful (strongly suggest you splurge on ocean view). The people who run it are very pleasant and have two dinner evenings each week, which are well worth attending. TNI is about 10 miles from George Town. There are some good supermarkets on GC so you can easily cater for yourselves as eating out is very expensive. TNI has a barbeque by the pool that you can use. You will need a car. We rented from Budget for $220 a week for a very small car with AC.

We also stayed at the Turtle Nest Inn a couple of years ago and really enjoyed the accomodattions. You will need a car as it is about 30 minutes from Georgetown and 7MB area. Keep in mind that although the Inn is right on the ocean the beach there is small and since there is a reef right off shore, the edge of the water is a bit "rocky" and there is a bit of turtle grass to wade through. However, because of the reef there is great snorkeling right off the beach behind the Inn. They also have a nice pool. The staff were extrememly hospitable and made our stay there very pleasant. They do have a website and if you do a search on this site under Cayman Islands, Turtle Nest Inn, you can find more information.

I would also recommend a condo on 7MB which is the ideal way to spend time on GC.
