Cable Beach Demolition??

I've read some postings on other sites referring to the demolition of the Radison/Wyndham and NBH to make way for a new complex. Does anyone know anything concrete about this rumor? Thank you.

I've seen those myself and wondered..I posted a request on one board a few months ago and was referred to an article in the Nassau Guardian (http://www.thenassauguardian.net/) you can do a search there for "cable beach" and find some info. I've heard that Breezes, NBH and Wyndham were part of the demolition, but the Radisson was not (though the governement of the Bahamas was trying to sell). Right now we're booked for the Radisson in July..

I'd sure love to hear some more info.

I'd post this over on the Ibahamian message board. www.ibahamian.com
It's where the locals hang out, they would have a better handle on this sort of thing.
I haven't heard anything new since the meetings a few months back, which stalled the project.

tamara- does that mean there was an actual project on the table? I didn't realize there were meetings, I presume you mean in the Bahamas, to discuss this thing. I'll try the other site as well. Thanks

The deal to buy the hotels has not even been signed although completion of the purchase is imminent according to the Prime Minister,it has been dragging on since last year,I would have thought that initially construction would begin without any demolition as the proposed development is supposed to be set back from the beach on the opposite side of the road to eventually include "theme park" [similar to Atlantis] on the site of the existing properties.

So, are all the hotels along the strip included (NBH, Breezes, Wyndham and Radisson)?

I just found an article from the Guardian newspaper from 11/2004. According to the article there have been talks between the owner of Wyndham/NBH and a new group. In order to move forward, the new group will need the Radisson as well and so far there has been no movement on that front. It seems to be well into the future unless something unexpected happens.

OK..thanks. I can't remember if I saw that article or not..

At least the Radisson will be there in July when we get there. I'd hate to see it go and that whole strip become another Atlantis.

i just read an article in the nassau guardian dated 2/19/05 that says the deal has been squashed. Baha Mar Development Ltd didn't come up with the money and was asked to leave the wyndham (they had an office there). I am glad to hear this, we stayed there last year and had a fabulous time.

That's good news bizzygirl. We always stay there too, going back in April actually. Maybe they'll put a little of their own money in now. A few aesthetic upgrades would go a long way. Still a great deal.

Thanks Jim. Your updates are appreciated. The new article makes it sound like it's going to be more of a 'makeover' than a complete demolition. We really prefer Cable Beach to PI so I hope the project is done in a way that accomodates visitors during the reconstruction. We're going next week to the Wyndham and I'm curious what the 'word on the street' will be.

Yes, we love Cable Beach and the Radisson specifically..while not mentioned in the latest update, the Radisson may be close to selling (currently owned by the government) and included in the redevelopment.
