cab to siboney in antigua

the hotel, siboney beach, doesn't provide a transfer from the airport. we are planning on renting a car for the week and we wondered if it made sense to begin the rental when we arrived. the factors would be the price of a camaybe most important), the distance from the airport to the hotel and the directions that we would have to follow to get from the aiport to the hotel. i believe it is a 15 minute ride but i'm not certain. any info. would be appreciated.

siboney beach doesn't provide a transfer from the airport so i wondered if anybody could give me an approximate price a cab, including tip, would cost from the airport to the hotel. thanks. is it about a 15 minute ride? i'm considering renting a car at the airport but i'm not that keen on arriving at an unfamiliar island and navigating my way around first thing.

Travel time to hotel from airport will be in the 10-15 minute range, no longer. I read somewhere that the taxi rates just went up on the island (they're set by the gov't), but up until this year it was around $12 + tip to go from airport to Dickenson Bay area. I would guess that $20 would cover it now, including a tip.

Do you normally drive on the left side or the right? I'm used to right-hand driving at home, so when I arrive in a place that drives left, I prefer to use the taxi ride from the airport to reorient myself--I usually ask if I can sit up front with the driver in order to better see the road, landmarks, etc.

Siboney should be able to arrange for a rental car to be dropped off at the hotel for you. It could be there waiting for you, or you could get it the next morning--Siboney is well situated that you could eat dinner on site, walk to another good restaurant on the beach, and walk to some live music venues on the beach on the first night without a car.

I usually stay on the east side of the island and use a friend for providing transportation needs. I've never rented from any regular company.

I`ve been to Antigua many times and still get lost occasionaly driving around. You`ll have to drive thru the capital of St. Johns and if you get lost there, it could be an hour driving around.I highly recommend renting a car to see the island, but when you first arrive I would get a cab. I don`t believe it would be more then twenty bucks.

I just got back from Siboney. We didn't rent a car. Taxi from airport is $16 each way. Taxi to English Harbor is $35 each way. You can eat at Coconut Grove or The Beach without using a taxi.

thanks to everybody who responded to my post with valuable insights. we've decided to take a cab from the airport to siboney and have booked a week car rental that will begin the next day. as of now, we have a weekly rate of $320 which includes taxes so that's the price to beat. thanks again for all your good advice.
