Be boring or try something new? Trip suggestions needed!
Hello, I have been reading this forum for a while now but this is my first post.
Last year I went to Vieques and had an excellent time there. (All the Vieques posts here were very helpful). This year I am wondering whether to revisit Vieques or try somewhere new in the Caribbean.
I live in NYC and prefer not too resort-y locations. I enjoyed the off-roading in Vieques but got a little bored with things to do at night.
I would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!

I,too, struggled with the same question when planning this year's trip. We have been to St. Martin, Aruba, St. Kitts, Nevis, The Bahamas and Guadeloupe. After much deliberation, we decided to go back to a place we have been. I am determined to try a new location next year. Actually, I considered Vieques or Turks & Caicos. I recommend trying another island as they all have something different to offer. We loved St. Kitts and Nevis and we split our time between the two. You can also stay on St. Kitts and take a ferry over to Nevis for the day. There is a great golf course on St. Kitts and we did a fantastic rainforest hike. My husband is taking the volcano tour this time around. Not as much nightlife, but we hung out at the casino at the Marriott and their lounge bar. We had dinner late and drinks. Hope this helps!

I would also recommend St. Kitts. If you stay in the Frigate Bay area, you'll have a choice of places to stay and you'll be walking distance to the beach bars at night (Mr. X's or the Monkey Bar). You'll also be close to Basseterre which will give you more options for nightlife. There's plenty to do around the island from historical sites to outdoor things like the volcano hike (it's very strenuous, but the view at the top when you're perched on the edge of the crater makes it worthwhile). The nice thing is that St. Kitts & Nevis are not yet overdeveloped, so the pace is laid back.

Have been to Vieques twicwe and you're right. Little boring at night. They roll up the sidewalks at 8PM. Have been to Provo Turks and Caicos and Anguilla over 20 times. Provo is getting a little built up and not much night life but great beach, accomodations and restaurants. I would recommend Anguilla. Again lovely accomodations, beaches and restaurants and more night life. Do an Anguilla search on this site and check out www.anguillaforum.com. You can fly from NYC to St Martin and take a 20 min ferry ride to get there

I think it's always a good thing to dip into the traveling fund and find new places. Having said that, I too, am going to suggest Nevis. We were there three months ago and loved it. Couldn't wait to open up our plantation shutters every morning and see what the day had to offer.
