Anse Chastanet for honeymoon
Greetings --
My husband-to-be and I are going to Anse Chastanet on our honeymoon in early August. Neither of us have ever been the Caribbean. We chose AC because we wanted to go somewhere that was all-inclusive but also small, secluded, romantic, and unique. And also one that offered activites like snorkeling, biking, hiking, etc. We chose the Total Romance Package and a Superior Hillside room. I have been reading so many postings on this site and others about the pros and cons of AC. I am mainly worried about the bugs. Has anyone visited AC with a similar plan and agenda? Any comments would be helpful. As the wedding gets closer, I am beginning to second-guess all of my decisions -- including AC for the honeymoon!

Hi Suzy,
Relax! You'll have a great time. AC is very romantic, and you chose the right room category. The hillside rooms are great.
Since you are going in August (low low season) and you are on your honeymoon, see if they will upgrade you to deluxe when you arrive.
The food there is very very good for an AI package - you will not be disappointed.
Be sure to take bug spray with deet. They are not bad during the day, but the mosquito netting just doesn't cut it at night!
The snorkeling and scuba are great there and you can go right off the beach.
Don't worry! It's a really neat place. We will be going back and we were there during three hurricanes.
If you like an active vacation, just walking up to the room from the beach will give you a work out. It's a little secluded, but isn't that what you want on your honeymoon?

You could definitely get bugs at Anse Chastenet in August. We stayed at Ladera for three days in April (a less buggy time of year). Ladera also has no wall on one side. We had some bugs, but fewer than people at Anse Chastenet because Ladera is up in the mountains and has a great breeze. Anse Chastenet is on the beach (advantage), but that makes it buggier (disadvantage). My only advice is to go and see how it is. If you are really uncomfortable, move to the Hilton, which is right nearby, has air conditioning, and is still romantic, with your own little bungalow and a private plunge pool.

I think you'll like Anse Chastenet. It's beautiful there, and the diving is really good.

Have a great wedding and a great honeymoon!

I'm sure you will have a great honeymoon at Anse Chastanet. My husband and I were there for our honeymoon in mid September 2000. It was also our first trip to the Caribbean and we were not disappointed! We also had a superior hillside room and did not find bugs to be a problem. The deluxe rooms look amazing, but beware they are much buggier because there is one wall that is completely open to the outside! We met a couple who were staying in a deluxe room and visited one night for some drinks. I got the only mosquito bites of the trip in their room!
The superior hillside rooms have windows that you can close and with the ceiling fan it is not too bad for sleeping at night.
You are right, AC is secluded, romantic and there is a lot to do. I think you won't regret your choice.
By the way, if you want to splurge on a day trip that you will never forget, take the day sail to The Grenadines. You fly to Union island and then take a large catamaran to several small islands and cays in the Grenadines for snorkling and sunning on the beaches. It was so relaxing, beautiful and we thought this was the highlight of our honeymoon.
