Toronto: Dinner Before Train Departure
Once again, my partner and I are taking the "Canadian" to Vancouver for a few days and nights of chill-out. Leaving Union Station on a Saturday night (10:00 PM) in October. Will arrive YYZ around 6Pm or so and will probably take a cab in vs using the bus/subway combo.
Ordinarily we get together with long-time friends who live on Bloor, have a meal, and then head for the station. This time around that isn't possible so we are looking for some place to eat. Last time I did this solo I found some bar and grill near Union and hauled my carry-ons in there and ate.
Thought about having a decent steak somewhere and considering the Ruth's Chris at the Hilton since we know the menu and the service in those places has generally been good for us (recent trip to Seattle provided the service exception).
Almost any sort of cuisine except sushi, moving on the plate, staring back at you, would work. May or may not have to be walkable but that would be helpful and thanks in advance.

There are plenty of restaurants in the area, thanks to the heavy concentration of business people. An easy one to find is Oliver & Bonacini Café Grill, a long two-block walk on Front Street east to Yonge. On the northeast side, across from the Hockey Hall of Fame, is this dining room plus a handful of others in the same high-rise, some with high prices but also the workaday, venerable Fran's.
Of course, if you want the grand tour dining experience as in the classic railroad days, seek out Canoe, atop one of the high rises and with management so seasoned that the staff use rulers to measure the position of the place settings. My better-off friend assures me the food is worth it.

PS: The fast train service from the airport right to Union Station has been open a year and must be more comfortable than the older, if cheaper, bus/subway.

Canoe is very nice indeed, but I don't believe it is open on the weekend.
For even more spectacular views you might want to consider 360 at the top of the CN Tower. It's been a while since I last ate there, but I understand that the food is not bad at all.

A favourite of mine, and walkable from the Royal York, is Le Sélect Bistro on Wellington just west of Bathurst.

I heartily second laverendrye's suggestion of Le Sélect on Wellington. The food is excellent and the wine cellar is superb. As a consulting engineer, my DH addressed the noise problem there at the request of Frédéric, one of the owners, so you should be able to hear yourself think at this popular place.
