Ticket for the Jazz Fest

Is it necessary to buy the tickets for the Jazz Fest?

which city?

I'm not, for Vancouver - when I get there I will see what is available and if I have time to attend. otherwise you should be able to just walk around - that is what I am banking on anyway.

If you mean Montreal, there are lots of free outdoor concerts, along with many indoor ones that require tickets.

Toronto has lots of free events -- at least two concerts a day.

One of the big-deal paid shows is already sold out.

I was asking about the Montreal Jazz Fest; we are going to be there July 5,6, & 7 and were wondering what the $40 "ticket" that was being sold really did; is there an area that you need a ticket to hear music?

Thanks

Entrance to the Montreal Jazz fest is free - you just walk over to St Catherine Street and dig the music. However, $40 sounds about right for one of the 'top name' indoor concerts that are part of the festival. There are many many performances going on all day - the outdoor ones are free, most of the indoor ones require a ticket.

Don't the indoor concerts sell tickets individually?

Also, have you ever stayed at the Vieux du Port?

Individual tickets are sold for each event. Go here for more info:

I've never stayed at this hotel, but I am familiar with the area. It's in the old city, right on the port ( I walked right past it yesterday). This is a touristy, busy area with lots of charm.
