Because it's summer. Very few symphony orchestras run year-round schedules, although some do tour or attend summer festivals. The most notable classical event in the Montreal area is the Festival of Lanaudiere some distance downriver in Joliette. It opens in early July and continues into August. The schedule is not complete for this year. A shuttle operates from the city. http://lanaudiere.org/en/Because it's summer. I have to say thank you to doctoraitch for bringing the Montreal Symphony to my attention. I have three nights in Montreal at the end of August and by co-incidence there is a concert of Hungarian folk music on my last night there so I just bought myself a ticket. Great.

Annhig: You will have the good luck to see the maestro himself, Kent Nagano, at work. Also to enjoy the new Symphonique hall, designed by the same architects as the swell Toronto opera house and also responsible for the billion-dollar bailout of the Mariinsky in St. Petersburg.

oh, thanks, Southam. There was another concert of famous choruses on offer earlier in the evening but as I prefer to sing than listen, I thought that the Hungarian music sounded better. Looks like I made the right choice. Any recommendations for a nice restaurant for a pre-concert dinner?
