Air Can has always been really good with my family and we travel A LOT. Sure, we don't always get the free seat, but they have always made an effort to ask other people to move in order to accomodate. It sounds like you had one bad experience.
At least with Air Canada the movies are free - WestJet charges $5 per movie now....per person!!!! I'd rather pay the $2 for the Air Can pillow.

His wife had some tools that she used to take the whillchair apart with.At first they woulnt let them on the plain saying he could be a terrest WITH NO LEGS and could take over the plain.Thay told her if she gave them three hundred dollars they would let her on the plain. Just my 2 cents worth: I have travelled extensively on MANY airlines, Canadian, American, and foreign
Its the same on all of them. Sometimes they are excellent, soemtimes you get a bad flight or an idiot flight attendant or whatever. I have never flown on an airline that was consistently good or bad.
And in my opinion, Air Canada went through a very bad time for service, but I have found they have improved immensely. Not perfect, (just like all the others) but I now consider them one of the better airlines.
And my basic priniple when travelling is get the best airfare and schedule that suits your needs. If you inconvenience yourself to avoid a certain airline, no one really cares. And in the end you get to your destination anyway..
