No 2009 Montreal Grand Prix

The Monteal Grand Prix has been cancelled. This is the largest tourist-related event in Montreal, and is no longer on the Grand Prix Formula One world-wide schedule.

The Mayor says he's going to fight it - good luck with that.

didn't this happen a few years ago and they brought it back? restaurants and hotels benefit greatly from that weekend.

I used to own an art gallery in old montreal and that weekend was dead for us, all the action is on crescent street.

nevertheless, it's a shame.

Previously, Montreal/Canadian govts capitulated on displaying evil cigarette company advertising logos and the race was "safe". Then US pulled out and Canada/Montreal now has to pay the full cost of transporting 18 F1 chariots and crews from Europe (not splitting cost with US for the North American market). Je crains que ce soit terminé (I fear it is finished).

There is still hope it seems; Tremblay, Bachand and Fortier are flying to London to plead our case.
