Hi Darcy,
Last June, we stayed at a small hotel called Manoir des Alpes and were pleased with it. The staff was very nice, a generous cold breakfast was included, and we paid about $100 per night inc tax for an attractive double with private bath. The other guests seemed to be a mix of tourists and business travelers. They have a website if you want to check it out.

I am probably a little late but Le Simone - Bed & Breakfast in Montreal is lovely and very inexpensive. Even if you are a woman travelling alone. Great breakfast! A/c (a little more noisy than the US)

There are several good b&b's clustered around the very pleasant Square St. Louis neighborhood. There are also a few moderately priced small hotels a few blocks away on Sherbrooke East - like the Argoat and Manior Shrebrooke.

My husband & I have stayed 2-3 times at a B&B called Le Chat Bleu. The building is from the 1920's with wood floors & trim, on a quiet residential street. The prices are reasonable -- $60-80 and Alain, the host, is very personable. The rooms are very clean. It's a shared bathroom B&B but we have never had a problem because either we are the only people in the B&B or others get up earlier or later. It is very centrally located (a 3 minute walk to upper Rue St-Denis); just around the corner from a variety of very good restaurants -- L'Express, Jardin de Panos (a Greek restaurant) which allows you to "apportez votre vin" (bring your own wine) & many ethnic restaurants; close to Mont Royal Park. You can Google Le Chat Bleu, Montreal, Quebec to get other info. www.bbcanada.com/2480.html shows photos of the rooms. The phone number is 514/527-3421. Alain has always helped us to find parking along the street in front of the B&B also. It's located on Rue Saint-Hubert between Rue Rachel E & Av Duluth E. Good luck & have fun!
