Casino in Montreal

Thinking of going to Montreal in a few days to check out the casino etc...Any ideas about a hotel that might be nice and reasonable ($150) and closer to the casino than others...Any ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks

The Casino is on Ile Notre-Dame in the middle of the St. Lawrance. There's no hotels on the island, if I remember. You can drive, or you can take the metro and switch to a shuttle bus.

If you're driving, just pick a nice hotel in downtown. If you're taking metro, then a hotel near it.

On an island? Is there a ferry to the island? Is it far from downtown?
Thanks!

Montreal itself is on a island in the St. Lawrence. But the casino is on another, much smaller one that's across from downtown. There are couple of bridges to get you there, no ferries.

Don't forget it has a dress code too.

Just wanted to comment re the last posting. There may be an official dress code at the casino but it is not enforced. The only thing you can't wear is a hat, but all else goes. I've seen people in shorts and sweatpants there, you won't have any trouble.

Montrealers like to "dress" to go out for the evening. A nice pair of slacks with a nice shirt or top is fine. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing sweats - Jeans are ok but not the norm

The casino is accessible by the metro and then a walk or bus ride to the casino.

We stayed at the Queen Elizabeth hotel - close to all the shopping on st.catherines street and easy travel to the casino.

Have a great time!

I have lived in MTL for 31 years and can assure you that this is not Paris and dress codes are very lax. PXYca may not want to be "caught dead wearing shorts," but that's her problem, if you want to, go right ahead, no one will mind.

wow! I simply wrote my observations from my visit last year! I didn't mean to "have a problem"

I did see people being turned away due to dress code at the casino last January (it was busy - in the evening so perhaps it is more lax in the day/summer?)

I have no issues with people wearing sweats - be comfy be happy!- but just keep in mind that your ability to enter some places (with dress codes)may be restricted ( a good rule anywhere not just MTL)

I did find montrealers to be fashion conscious and sharply dressed - that's not to say there are no sweats and no jeans in sight.
