Banff-Lake Louise Hotel Help

My wife and I (early 30s) are planning on heading out to the parks in July. Any thoughts on the Fairmont Lake Louise vs. Post Hotel? Any thoughts on the Fairmont Banff Springs vs. the Rimrock Resort? Any thoughts on the Jasper Park Fairmont? Can you stay in one place for the entire trip or is it best to stay at a couple of places? Thanks.

You need to stay in a minimum of two places:

(1) Jasper

(2) Somewhere along the Banff / Lake Louise axis.

You CAN stay in both Banff AND Lake Louise, but it is not strictly speaking necessary, because the two places are about 45 minutes' drive from each other.

Use "search this forum" for comments regarding each hotel.

Have stayed at Post Hotel several times and recommend it highly.

doc04:

We stayed at the Baker Creek Cabins [or Chalets?]very close to Lake Louise but on the old highway.

Excellent accommodation, quiet as opposed to those areas of heavier traffic. Fully self contained. A popular spot so book early if you are interested.

We drove into Banff for dinner most nights, no problem.

Anywhere in the park area would be good.

Have a good trip.

Another vote for Baker Creek Chalets. We have stayed there on several trips and have always been very pleased. We did stay at the Banff Springs years ago (before it was a Fairmont) and loved it as well.

I can not compare, because in our trip in Rockies 9a tauck tour) we stayed only at Fairmont hotels (Fairmont Lake Louise, Fairmont Banff Springs and Jasper Park Fairmont).
We liked all these hotels, each of them is different from another. The view from our windows at Lake Louise was superb, we wake up at sunrise - very early - to see the colors of the lake; this is an unique experience. at Banff, the hotel is like a real castle. At Jasper, the house had one bedroom and one living. the outdoor heated pool was fantastic with the view of all the mountains around us.

We prefer Post Hotel over Fairmont Lake Louise. It's cozier and a bit more upscale (restaurant is the tops, as is the wine cellar, spa, etc.). We like the private cabins on the Bow River and book them a year in advance. The owners recognize us each year which is nice.

Fairmont hotels are huge and impersonal and the service is sometimes spotty. The Walliser Stube is fun for fondue on a cold night.
