How can someone who has lived in the city for 40 years not respond to this one? While St. Kilda (except for Donovans and Di Stasio and perhaps a walk down the Pier) is not my favourite part of Melbourne, there are many areas that will always be my favourites. The MCG, the Botanical Gardens, the walk from the Casino along the river to Walters Wine Bar, the walk through Degraves St. through the lanes and arcades to Bourke St. the Princess Theatre, Florentinos, Pellegrinos, the Windsor Hotel, the buildings and cafes of Carlton, the Exhibition Building, St. Paul's cathederal, the Arts Center precinct etc. etc. There are many favourite parts of Melbourne.

Have been away for 16 years, but always manage to visit Fitzroy Gardens and The Shrine when I return to visit. BOTANIC Gardens are really good too.

Yes the Hume Highway is a good way to approach Melbourne so I can understand why you like it so much Geordie.

The vista driving down the Latrobe Street extension and ascending as you approach Telstra Dome towards Docklands , on a still night , with the backdrop of the Bolte Bridge ,its electric blue lights and boats reflected across the still waters . Truly a fabulous and unknown little surprise in a city not known for water views .
