The Boathouse, Port Douglas

Hello, Does anyone have information on a new apartment property, The Boathouse, on Murphy St in Port Douglas? It looks great on the website but I would love to hear from someone who knows it personally. I know Murphy St is on a hill but am not clear how high a hill and how far from the beach. The other place that looks interesting is The Peninsula. We will be in PD a week and like the idea of enough room to spread out. Thanks

hi sarah,
i absolutely loved the boathouse! i stayed there jan. 2001 for 3 nights (found it by accident!) and it was really a pleasure. there were 3 of us and there was plenty of room. we had a bedroom with twin beds downstairs and a queen room upstairs. the place is decorated "zen-balinese", really comfy and relaxing. there's a full kitchen and laundry in the apartment as well as a computer, if you want to use it (there's a charge though, but you can go to the main office and use the computers there to check your e-mail for free).
if you are walking, the entrance to the boathouse is on the main street, called macrossan, and you walk up a small hill to get to the apartments. it's not big deal. if you are driving, parking is behind the building and you can unload your luggage easier.
the folks that run the place are super nice and can help with any of your activity needs. if you need air conditioning though, have them give you a primer on how to use it. i could never get it to work the right way...
it's a short walk to the beach, about 5 minutes, and close to the marina, where you can hop on a boat to the reef. a very convenient location.
e-mail me with any other questions. i also have a trip site if you want to read it:
http://www.mindspring.com/~quimbymoy/australia.html
tina

Thank you Tina,

You're right, the hill sounds like no deal at all and I like the availability of an entrance on Macrossan St. Enjoyed your website. Your trip sounded wonderful and gave me some good ideas and pointers.

Just got back from Australia, stayed at the Peninsula for 3 nights. The Boathouse is closer to shops/restaurants but the Peninsula is across the street from the beach- which didn't serve us as much for watersports since stinger season is still in effect. The Peninsula is a nice hotel but pricier that the Boathouse. The included buffet breakfast was great everyday and they actually supply the soap for the washers and dryers (laundry room on second level). Ask for Room 18 - ocean view away from noise and about 20 feet from the laundry room. The Murphy st Hill doesn't look that high but you do have to walk quite a bit to the beach. But your not going to hear the waves at night which was a big plus at the Peninsula. Have fun!
