Sheraton -- Port Douglass??

Anyone have any thoughts on this hotel v. other hotels in Port Douglass?

It's the biggest and the swishest and it put Port Douglas on the tourist map - enormous swimming pools and own golf course. Stunningly landscaped, but you do pay for it! Bill and Hilary have stayed there twice, along with other assorted world leaders.

It was disappointing for us in May 2000. Booked 4 nts checked out and went to Silky Oaks. The Sheraton rooms smelt of mould, the place was run-down. Maybe they've spent lots of money since then but I would avoid it. Radisson Treetops looked nice-also their are several serviced apartments for rent in Macrossan St-we stayed in a lovely one-do a search on google.

Hi Lyndie - it's been re-furbished since then but I'd still prefer Silky Oaks, especially if we get a decent wet season. I find the natural rainforest setting of Silky Oaks much more appealing than the landscaped, "resort" look of the Sheraton - it could be a 5 star resort in any tropical destination.

I stayed there in August. It felt like a huge convention hotel. The lobby was a beehive of people, tour desks, etc. But on the positive side, the swimming pools and lagoons were gorgeous and fun to swim in and there was easy access from the hotel to a huge and beautiful beach. We stayed in a villa with several bedrooms --- having heard the property was showing its age, I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of our room. The property is large -- it can be quite a hike to breakfast. The restaurant food was quite good although service could be extremely slow.

Hi to you Pat
Silky Oaks is one of my favourite places to stay in the world-for hospitality at its finest I wouldn't miss an opportunity to stay at Silky Oaks again especially with their new spa facility! Enjoy yourself!
