place to stay
Looking for a place to stay in Sydney. thoughts? on either the list below or your own idea.
going mid march to mid april. something near city centre.
do not want to stay to 5 star accommidations. but do realize sydney is expensive.
definites: ensuite bathroom.
would prefer a place with at least a small fridge and a microwave to cook some food.
was thinking of the following possiblitites esp if they might spring for a long term rate
raddisson suites
quest
regis on castlereigh
ibis (and i would join the advatage plus clube- 10% off all stays)
central railway hotel
park regis central hotel (though i heard its thin walls/loud in the area)
yha hostel
askup hostel
any thoughts?

Hello met19
Another suggestion: The Travelodge, Phillip St Sydney.
They have fridge and microwave in the rooms, comfortable beds and clean bathroooms.
They are located above a club where you can purchase meals, or there are plenty of cafes nearby.
The location is very central to the CBD, and rates are very reasonable.
Sorry I can't help with your list - I'm sure others will! Di

Have a look at www.wotif.com.au under "Self Catering Apartments".
Prices in March are likely to be lower than now, which is our high season. If you're here at Easter, you'd probably be wise to pre-book because it's also school holidays and gets pretty busy.
Sydney has a very good range of modern apartments & I think they're much better than hotel rooms. More space, kitchen & laundry facilities.
CBD, Darling Harbour, Potts Point, Darlinghurst are good locations.
The YHA at The Rocks is very good indeed. Fantastic location, with a roof top deck overlooking the Opera House & harbour. It's only just over a year old. http://www.yha.com.au/hostels/nsw/sy...ydney-harbour/

met19 - you wouldn't even know the club is there; the Travelodge is located on the floors above and we've never encountered any noise at all.
If you book on a Tuesday (our time) you get a 10% discount under their 'Choosday' booking plan - I don't know of any loyalty program with them. Di

appreciate all the help
muck: marriott is asking for 220 USD plus
ironically the ya are more the the travelodge sydney (not the phillip). they offered me a discount rate of 105 and they have a fridge and microwave.
i know a self catered apt would be nice, but it would easily be 40/night more

Mint Resorts (Napoleon on Kent) has a self catering studio apartment at AUD 99 on Wotif at the moment.
Suggest you have a look down the list on Wotif. And remember, the rates now are high season, but won't be when you're here, unless you're planning on staying through Easter (22nd April).
If you see a property you like, contact them direct & see what they will offer you.

Bokhara2 I was going to suggest the YHA too. My daughter works for YHA and she and her fiance have stayed at the YHA at The Rocks a couple of times now and love it. She tells me the rooms are nice and that they have an ensuite and they love that roof top area.

I was really impressed, Cathies. My god daughter's room had a queen and 2 bunk beds, ensuite, nice views and was $140. Don't know what the tariff for a single room is, but imagine it's similarly very economical.
She and another teacher were here with a group of 25 drama students and some parents and stayed 3 nights.
Apparently everyone thought it was great, which in itself is quite something when you consider the diversity of ages, demographics, travel experiences & expectations. And a bunch of teenagers!
