I'm pulling my hair out!!!!
please help before I end up going mad. I have honestly spent at least 4 weeks trying (on a daily basis) to find accommodation in Fiji.
We are flying around Oz and have all flights and most hotels booked (Brisbane, Sydney (twice), Cairns, Melbourne) and I am quite relaxed about that - counting down the minutes - 2 weeks and 3 days to go (or just over 23000 minutes!) before we leave from Scotland. Previous post gives dates, routes etc.
BUT I cannot seem to get a decent standard of accommodation in Fiji for a reasonable rate. I would hate to say how many thousand of pounds we have spent so far on the Oz leg. I was hoping to spend around £100 per night (approx 180 USD or 240 AUD) on lodging in Fiji. However, from what I have seen, that would hardly get us a lilo on the beach *laughs*.
We will be in Fiji between 13th to 17th Nov and from prev help from this forum I know we should be looking at Yasawa or Mamanuca Islands for this time of year as other islands may be too wet (?).
However, the places I have found are either dirt cheap backpacker type resorts (with bad reviews) or millionaire playgrounds that sound excellent but seem to be out of our price range. Am I missing something? This is the holiday of a lifetime for us but I dont want to pay for it for the rest of our life *laughs* or spend my time in Oz worrying about booking Fiji accommodation.
If anyone can help I would be forever thankful.
Our 'shopping list' would be -
nice clean accommodation
great beaches
good food
we dont dive but would try and snorkel
not bothered about a pool as long as the sea is fine
dont want somewhere that you have to climb over bodies to get to the beach
dont particulary care if everyone dines together or you do your own thing
and maybe some stuff about us would help?
we are mid 30's, no kids, average lifestyle, work very hard and have been renovating a house for the last year and a half so this will be our chance to relax and recharge our batteries before heading home to Scotland and the snow that will no doubt be waiting on us on our return!!!
Thanks for any help - lastminute booking websites would be a great help (I havent found any exciting ones). Also, is it a good idea to just book something when we arrive at Nadi airport????????
Sorry for such a long post but had I known how expensive the accommodation was in Fiji I probably wouldnt have booked the flights there!
Hope you can help travel buddies!

Try the Warwick in Fiji.
We were there in April. Excellent 4*. We got it for about £110 a night for an Ocean view room (via the travel firm Kuoni)
Wonderful hotel, friendly service, reasonable price for food and drink

i think you can buy hotel deals from some flight centres without also buying the airline ticket, they can offer good deals because they buy rooms in bulk.

At that time of year you may do better contacting the resorts direct as it it quite a quiet time in Fiji. Try Castaway, Navini, Treasure for mid-range. Slightly more expensive is Tokoriki and Matamanoa. Along the Coral Coast there are also some more reasonably priced places - but the beaches are not so good Have a look at www.bulafiji.com for contact details.

marie, we have stayed at the Sheraton which was very nice although the food can be a bit pricey, the fijian is also nice, have you thought about a Blue Lagoon cruise? I am not sure how long you are staying but there are three day cruises and they are quite good. The beaches aren't very crowded as the water is quite warm and not refreshing but the snorkelling (in some places) is OK.

I came across Margaret's Fiji Island Travel Service
http://fijiislandstravel.com/
when I was researching a trip there (we didn't end up going as it was the wet season but will hopefully visit another time).
If you contact them and give them an idea of what you want, I'm sure they can offer some suggestions.
