It starts about 8AM seriously if I recall and goes until about 3pm but does start to slack off earlier than that in the afternoon, depending on customers really.
It is quite a long drive from Cradle Mt so I would allow about 4 hours I think. I did it only last year but for the life of me I can't remember how long it took - longer than I expected though.

It is held down at the Salamanca Wharf area of Hobart along a delightfully restored street of mostly convict built buildings and under some wonderful old trees. It is NOT a flea market as such. There is some of the most beautiful vegetables I have ever seen grown by a tribe of Cambodian ( I think) migrants which would make anyone want to start eating more veggies, there is second hand bric a brac, antiques, Asian food, gourmet coffee, arts and crafts, old books, second hand clothes, new clothes, jewellery and a host of other things that will delight you all for great prices. There are some wonderful eating places around there and there is usually a street band or 2 playing. It is close to the Antarctic Exhibition which is great to see and you can really spend a day in and around that area just taking it all in. There are also boutique shops in Salamanca, a couple of great pubs, second hand book shops etc etc. I love Salamanca Markets and I get there in time for breakfast.

We were there in March and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. There were all sorts of goodies there!! We arrived around 11 and then around 1 we took time and stopped in an Irish Pub for lunch. There were many crafts, clothes, vegetables; in all, quite a diverse offering of things for sale. We stayed right in Hobart at this little boutique hotel that had mineral baths in the lower level. The hotel was quite comfy and we had found it on Wotif.com for a much lowered price.

If it looks like a flea market, smells like a flea, has all the amenities of a flea market, it IS a flea market. Besides, what's so bad about a flea market? Opens early and closes at various times in the afternoon depending on attendance.
Well worth the visit.
