the Kiribilli wharf option is perfectly valid...

my preferred list ....

-catch the ferry to milsons point wharf
-take your photo under the smiley face at Luna park
-have a swim at north sydney pool (best located pool on the planet)
-have a coffe at ripples restaurant in front of the pool
-walk under the bridge to the vantage point opposite the quay and opera house
-walk up jeffrey st to the steps to the bridge
-go up the south east pylon to admire the views and see the exhibit
-learn the story of the opening of the bridge
-come off the bridge and have a beer at the rooftop bar at the Glenmore Hotel.
-then have another beer and a pizza at the australian hotel
-go back up to the walk way and complete the cahill walk around to above the quay.

imho this is a better bridge option than the climb.
