Harbour Bridge walk
 

I am thinking of catching the ferry across to Kirribilli and walking back over the Harbour Bridge. Does anyone know where this would Bring me out on the Circular Key side and approximately how long it would take?

Great, thanks for the information. I am hoping to do a bicycle ride with a company, but am thinking of walking myself; might be a little more relaxing.

" No visit to Sydney can be considered complete without a leisurely walk across Sydney Harbour Bridge. Entry to the pedestrian walkway is via the southeast pylon which is reached by walking up Argyle Street in the Rocks, ascending the Argyle Steps, crossing Cumberland Street and following the signs marked 'Bridge Stairs'. The view is spectacular at any time of the day but is particularly impressive in the early morning or late afternoon" read in reverse, ie. you come down the tower and out onto Cumberland Street, and then can take Argyle Steps street down into rocks area.

And time wise, if in a hurry, about an hour but if you have time, then down near Kirribilli House there's a lookout as close to the point as what you can get, and a couple of hours for a relaxed walk in total.

There are some lovely spots for a coffee/breakfast/lunch just after you alight from the ferry at Kirribilli. And, walk under the overpass towards the Luna Park face, and Ripples is an excellent casual restaurant with indoor, outdoor and take-away options.

If you're here in Summer and fancy a swim, the North Sydney Pool is above Ripples and has wonderful harbour views.

Sooo glad you have this on your agenda. Kirribilli is one of my favourite ferry stops - wonderful views from the pontoon, and the walk across the Bridge is terrific!

It'll take 15-20 mins to walk from the ferry to the vicinity of Milsons Point station. Access to the Bridge is actually harder to find at that end than the southern end. As you face the station go left and look around!

An hour in total is about right, but if it were me I'd be wanting to stop at the Museum in the SE pylon. Haven't been for years - time I did so again! - but I remember a fascinating exhibition about everything "bridge" and you can walk up to the top of the pylon where you are obviously not as high up as if you did the Bridge Climb. But still the views are amazing and it's a whole lot cheaper.

An hour just to walk - 3 hours to savour.

you will be headed to Milsons point wharf on the darling harbour ferry.

Kirribilli wharf is to the east in neutral bay.

That would depend johno on how well the navagator navigates his way at CQ - if he wants to go to Kirribilli as in Kirribilli Point, Kirribilli and Admiralty Houses walk by and then on up to the bridge, he'd be better off heading to the Kirribilli Wharf.

I am thinking of the Kirribilli ferry stop, because pictures I have seen on the net, will give better views looking back towards Circular Quay and the city skyline, correct me if I'm wrong?

Either will give you great views back to the city, and you can walk between Kirribilli & Milsons Point wharves in about 10 mins.

Kirribilli is opposite the Opera House; Milsons Point slightly to the west.

At the risk of becoming the third biggest know all on the site....

Kirribilli wharf is not opposite the opera house..it is around in neutral bay.

the wharf opposite the opera house is jeffrey st wharf and it is not used by sydney ferries.

IMHO the 'best' wharf is milsons point wharf on the darling harbour ferry route.

Just goes to show how long it is since I took the ferry across there Johnj ;)

Just to add another possible ferry to get there: some of the Balmain/Woolwich ferries also stop at Milsons Point. The Darling Harbour and Woolwich ferries all leave from Pier 5 (except for Sundays).

The Kirribilli Wharf is not such a great walk from the point where K & A Houses and a lookout are though you can also include Luna Park/Milsons Point if you want to I imagine as a short detour for isn't Kirribilli wharf just around past the point well before Neutral Bay wharves and Milson Point wharf is actually on the Luna Park western side of the bridge/

The thing is, Navgator didn't ask which was the closest ferry stop. He/she had already decided on Kirribilli so all this chatter about where exactly K is in relation to Milsons Point is beside the "point". haha.

MP would also be a good starting point but I prefer Nav's idea of going to Kirribilli (a) cos it's a more interesting ferry trip; (b) cos the views are quite different from those from MP. And really if the OP wanted to he/she could take in both, having walked through the quiet streets of Kirribilli, he/she could head down to the waterfront at Milson's Point (and have a snack or a swim) before climbing back uphill and finding the steps that lead to the bridge.

Nav - if you happen to be doing this on a Saturday you might stop by at the market (if you have the time).

And afterall, perhaps the name navagator says enough and that is why the question was just:

for that part is not so clear unless you had accessed bridge accessing information.

to carry out a contraction of all your replies I would

1) alight the Ferry at Kirribilli

2) look around immediate area

3) Walk round to Milsons point to savour the views of the city

4)Walk near the Milsons Point station to gain access to the pedestrian steps of the Bridge

5) relax and enjoy

Yep, but if you like, after the Milsons Point/Luna Park lookabout you can head back under the bridge and walk back up the east side if you like so as you're already on the side that will allow you to leave at the South East Pylon and view the display/climb the pylon if you want to.
