toddo,

And as I said before thanks for posting!

I'm sorry you took my post the wrong way.....maybe it's my wry sense of humor or our cultural differences that get in the way, lol.

Let me then be the first to welcome you to Fodor’s Asia board! We really do appreciate everyone who takes the time to tell us of their experiences about one’s travels here on this board. We are always interested in someone else's detailed adventures of their travels throughout Asia.

Fodorites thrive on the DETAILS. It also helps us to know a little about the person is who providing those details.

Would you mind giving us a little information about where you traveled from on this October trip to Bangkok? Did you only visit Bangkok? Did you have your spouse/children with you? Where you stayed, went to, dined……maybe (and hopefully) a trip report??? We would LOVE to read a trip report from a FRESH point of view! Thanks again!

Aloha!

Tim and LIz - I too have been having trouble reaching Tong via e-mail. I have been trying since Jan. 18 with no luck to confirm our time with her in late March (already scheduled) and work out some details. I believe I have sent 4 e-mails and have received 2 automatic notices that she is out touring (incl. one from an e-mail sent today). Have you had luck hearing back from her?

jgg-

I finally did when I used a different email. I had been using gmail and she said she didn't get it... although it worked fine last fall.

Tong did confirm our dates but hasn't given me a price (fine though, I can estimate using her website and others' trip reports), and then said she is starting to take deposits.

I then asked her how I can send a deposit and she has not replied.

I think that if you put "Tong, this is the third time I have sent this... " at the beginning of your email she is more likely to reply?

Good luck!
Liz

Liz,

You now have to put down a deposit to secure Tong's services?

On Tripadvisor, there are posts now that say Tong is in the hospital right now....which would explain why she isn't replying.

I think deposits are a good idea for the most part. I know that she has had a number of occasions where people cancel day of or the day before a tour with her for reasons unknown, but not illness or emergency.

Correct. She told me about a person who cancelled on the morning of the scheduled tour because she had found a cheaper price with someone else. I can certainly understand the need for taking deposits.

Liz - Thanks for the advice. The e-mail I sent this morning was from a different address than my others, so hopefully that will work.

I checked out the thread on TA and it does appear she is in the hospital from exhaustion. I recall that happened a few months ago as well. It is too bad that she needs to be in the hospital to get the much needed rest. I hope she gets better and takes good care of herself.

I also agree that deposits are appropriate.

I am sorry to hear that she is in the hospital and wish her a speedy recovery!

A deposit will prevent her from wasting her time and money. It seems very reasonable to me. She ofetn refuses clients because she is booked. The committment should go both ways.

i had a short e mail from her that said she was home and ok....

some of us have encouraged her to request a deposit....i think it is good business on both sides...

remember she is only one person....she has a blackberry and a computer, but she also escorts tours and has a family too....she does the best she can for her customers, which at my last check was about 199%....she is only one person....

Got a rather long reply from Tong thanking me for the phone call today. Got admitted due to exhaustion & a virus got her - no ability to fight it. She said she was OK & WENT TO WORK TODAY !!! In fact she was in the Railway Market when I called touring(?) another TA regular. She is something else. Hope our Energizer Bunny can keep this up without getting back to the hospital.

Gloria, I need to ask the question - what does ttt stand for. I get the gist but wanted to have it spelled out please? Thanks.
