Pregnant woman (4.5 months) - which destination for a trip in mid-June?

(** Other than Hong Kong, Macau and the Mainland. **)

We're based in Hong Kong right now and would be 4.5 months pregnant when my husband and I get our last-trip-before-parenthood in mid-June. What would be a sensible and yet fun destination for a pregnant woman that time around?

We have up to a week, but a 4-day getaway would work just fine too.
We've been to Tokyo, Hokkaido, Koh Samui, Langkawi, Bangkok, Singapore, Taipei before.

We enjoy the nature, historic sites, nice quiet hotels and fine dining.

Thanks!
Kat

I saw your post re Bali so guess that is under consideration. How do you feel re Vietnam? Very accessible from HK. Hanoi is a 1 hour flight. I loved it. You could look at the Ana Mandara at Nha Trang or the new Evason resort. If you take the full week you could combine some time in Hanoi with some time at the beach. Not sure if bird flu will be an issue....if you are willing to go a little further, Sri Lanka is a great option and you could combine Colombo with a couple nights at the new Aman resort there - www.amanresorts.com or Elephant Corridor - www.elephantcorridor.com.

Lets go outside the "Fodors" box- think
Philippines- it gets little attention on this board but its a great place to visit, the people are warm and the US dollar goes a long ways. Its the best kept secret on this board!

I'd go to Thailand since if you need it they have excellent medical care and it's also a wonderful country. I'd head to northern thailand and stay in a lovely resort.

Let's see, one of the issues for a pregnant woman is to avoid areas that are malarial-risk since malaria in a pregnant woman is considered a medical emergency. So while the area around Chaing Mai, Thailand would be fine, the Golden Triangle area is malarial risk. It also rules out places like Luang Prabang and Siem Reap.

So start by checking the cdc website for info on malarial risk areas to rule those out www.cdc.gov/travel. You'll still have plenty of options, as much of Thailand, VN, the Phillipines, Malaysia and Bali are not malarial risk areas.

You might also consider Singapore. Singapore is a very modern, clean city and has lots of things to do and see. It has fabulous hotels and fabulous food. If you are interested in a city vacation rather than a resort vacation, it might fill the bill.

For beach locations, consider Malaysia. There are lots of lovely beach areas with nice resorts. Also consider some of the other beach areas in Thailand, such as Hua Hin. Phuket would be a fine destination if you don't mind the rain that time of the year.

Good point about avoiding malaria zones, Kathie. And a very important one.

I go to the bathroom standing up and have no clue what is going happening in a pregnatn ladies body at the at time.. I imagan a big bellies lady sweating and complaining that her knees hurt so on this most likly false assumption I will say stick too northern asia saoul korea, kyoto or posibly venture off to australia it's in the neighberhood..

actually I think australia my be best the climet at the time is probably not as hot as asia at the time and it may be a less stressfull trip in general..

For a short romantic trip, I'd highly recommend Hanoi. You'll find some excellent hotels, fine dining, and good shopping too. For nature, you can take walks in the many parks around the city and take a cruise around Halong Bay.
